Four reasons why Obama should win

Electoral vote advantage. Reason #1 As of 9/1/08, Obama has an advantage in the electoral vote. Obama has pretty much captured 226 of the needed 270 votes. McCain has 189 of the 270 votes needed. Obama needs 44 more votes, or 36% of the remaining 123 electoral votes, McCain needs 81 of those votes, or 66% of the remaining votes. There is a 2 to 1 advantage in Obama’s favor. When my 2nd., and 3rd. points are factored in, Obama’s need to only capture 1/3 of the electoral votes is huge, really huge.

Winning these votes comes down, in reality, to the money the campaigns have to spend.

Campaign Financing. Reason #2. Obama has enjoyed a 2 to 1 advantage in campaign contributions during this election. He employees 2500 people working on his campaign, spending about 10 million dollars a week on his campaign, a sum equal to the entire yearly budget for the city Palin was “Mayor” of. As of July Obama had raised $389,423,102 , With total debts of $915,894McCain had raised $174,165,949, With total debts of $2,003,356

Biden had raised $13,158,508 Palin had raised - - - $0.00

The last 60 days will come down to who has the money and resources. Obama’s 2 to 1 advantage in funding will play a major part.

Sara Palin and the Heartbeat issue. Reason #3.Never mind all the scandal and rumors that abound regarding Sarah Palin, she clearly has no training or real experience to become CIC should Sen. McCain succumb to his age or illness. No one seriously believes her experience as governor of Alaska qualifies her to be governor of the next largest state (the 49th. Largest) let alone the POTUS. The Heartbeat issue coupled with McCain’s health/age issues will weigh heavily on voters minds. I expect this to become a major campaign issue during the last 30 days of the campaign.

Seriously, I know what the Republican’s are saying publicly, but I know that they are secretly wishing for a “do over” with respect to Palin.

The Debates. Reason #4.Presidential debates. Assuming the candidates respond to issues with equally valid points, Obama’s presentation is sufficient to give him the win. Nixon lost to Kennedy in 1960 due to appearance and presentation, and likewise, this time around, the Democratic candidate has the charisma and the energy the Republican candidate lacks. Advantage Obama. Vice Presidential Debates. Biden will clearly outclass Palin. Palin has so little knowledge that the only following she gets may be one of sympathy. And once again, they will be watching her with that “Heartbeat” issue in the back of their mind.

Summation.Obama needs half the number of remaining electoral vote McCain needs. Obama has twice the financial resources his opponent has. Obamae has a VP who is fully qualified and without the negative issues Palin brings. Obama and Biden have debate skills and charisma that the Republican opponent's lack. All these factors add up to a winning hand for the Obama team.

Don't pat yourself on the back too fast. The Debates aren't even here yet.

From what I've read from you experience isn't that big of a deal. . . OH! DUH! unless you are a republican as Palin is.

#1 - Nobody has cast a single vote yet. You can't say Obama has more electoral votes at this point than McCain. There is a lot of time left before this election.

#2 - I completely agree.. the money issue will help swing the election in favor of Obama.

#3 - McCain has a clean bill of health, but he is an older man. However I still can't understand Dems playing the experience card. Palin still has more executive experience than Obama. She's at least spent her time as an elected official doing great things and demonstrating her ability. Obama has spent his time in office running for another office. I'll take my chances with a risky VP on the experience factor over a risky POTUS in the experience area.

#4 - I would agree that Obama will most likely be the more attractive speaker when the debate comes. But I think the American public is smart enough to base their opinions on content rather than cosmetics. You can't assume Biden will be better than Palin at this point. I'm really looking forward to seeing debates. We all know Obama can deliver a speech that was written for him.. but is he as good at thinking on his feet and delivering his own words when the pressure is on?? He did well in the Dem Primaries, but I'd like to see what happens when he's debating someone who actually has opposing views on the major topics... rather than having a contest to say the same thing better than the person previous.

So I'm on board with 1 and a half of your points... but I think you're wrong to jump to conclusions and make assumptions of the other points right now.

Calling the election this far in advance is a perilous endeavor at best.

I think Obama will clinch it, but it's going to be CLOSE.

The electoral and popular margins will narrow, the fund raising gap will narrow (but not disappear, IMO), et cetera.

Not if you're Bob. Remember, he "knows". ....

I'm calling Senator McCain.

If he'll pay for my flight to the debates and get me security clearance, I'll unplug everyone's teleprompter.

Instant GOP victory come November.

Hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. If I was McCain, I'd fold or at least throw 4 of my 5 cards in and hope fate dealt me a playable hand.

Of course, Obama could trip and fall a few feet from the finish line. We'll see.

Actually, if YOU were McCain, your name would be on the Vietnam Memorial.

Fortunately, he's not a quitter.

Bob

Can I add #5?

Obama made a careful thought out decision on picking a VP that could assist him on the experience in foreign affairs issue.

McCain made a very rash and poor decision on picking a poorly qualified female to appeal to the right. If Sarah were a Sam, McCain surely would have a made a different choice.

I still feel she may be gone by election day.

Attempting to ban books in the Wasila public library doesn't help McCain or her either.

hmm? Why not just let the elections decide? Trying tocall an election does nothing to deal with the issues at hand...

Your logic fails for the following reason. if Palin becomes CIC, McCain is no longer with us - IE he's out of the picture.

If Obama becomes CIC, Biden is there to assist.

So, scenario A, (Palin as CIC) we have total experience of 0, vs scenario B (Obama as CIC) we have a total of what, 38 years of experience in Washington.

That's about 38 to nothing.

So, we're only in trouble if McCain dies.

But Biden doesn't have to die - we're in trouble on day one.

Remember, Obama is the Democrats' PRESIDENTIAL nominee.

Why should a VP have to be MORE experienced than a President?

No, we're in deep trouble of Palin ever becomes CIC. Sell the farm trouble.

They are a team. One listens and makes up his mind after pondering the facts. A good VP will be instrumental in that regard.

Why shouldn't he have as much or more? Seriously, how does that hurt anything. Now, look at it the other way around and tell me how a virtual political novice helps in any way?

But Obama has no more experience than Palin.

Why is having an inexperienced Obama better than an inexperienced Palin?

Pursuing this argument just makes Obama look smaller.

It's simply a matter of the circumstances surrounding Palin's taking over the job. Her experience is nothing more than something akin to running a neighborhood watch program, not the largest military in the world. Yet, if McCain passes away, she'll be standing at the helm without the help of an experienced VP to guide her. She has no experience with domestic issues, and until a week ago, probably didn't even know what the duties of the VP were.

Obama, on the other hand, has the benefit of such a VP. Big difference. As I said before, 38 to 0.

I'm not quoting the source but apparently McCain had to be sold on her, he wanted Lieberman. I'll dig it up later.

That's like me saying your sales experience is the rough equivalent of running a sidewalk lemonade stand.

Bob, you're WAY off here. She's a Governor, for crying out loud.

If it was that simplistic, why aren't you doing it? For that matter, why aren't several of us? We have some smart folks here.

It is not a done deal yet.

I want the Democrats to keep deluding themselves about this and get complacent!

Yet another example of why I do not want our "rush-to-spend somebody else's money" Democrats in office! It must be genetic ...
rn79870 wrote:Sara Palin and the Heartbeat issue. Reason #3.
1. Bad assumption that McCain will die in office. An obvious Democrat scare tactic that makes no difference.

2. Even if it happens, I'd much rather have somebody who knows how to fire a gun, who has fired a gun, and is not afraid of it, as the decision-maker when it comes to the next battle on terrorism.
rn79870 wrote:The Debates. Reason #4.
I am seriously looking forward to these! I believe that we will see classic rhetoric from Obama when he has a tough question. No facts, just an attempt to get a cheer from the crowd.
