2000 Pathfinder. Driving to work, it dies out and will not restart. Engine just turns and turns.

Happened near a shop that I hadn't used. Pushed it in and they diagnosed it as a bad distributor. They replaced and I went on my way.

Three weeks later, it happened again. They replaced it again under warranty.

One week later, again. Again replaced.

Less than a week, again... :wtf2:

I am thinking something else is the culprit and they have been treating the symptom.

Has anyone else here experienced similar?

Welcome!

"Bad distributor" is a pretty generic description... Any other details? The crank angle sensor (CAS) is the main "toastable" part in the distributor, but there are also the cap, rotor, bearings, etc. When an engine all the sudden won't start, it's either because of no-spark, or no-fuel.

Does the check engine light come on? Any OBDII codes? Did they check the SS coil?

Thanks for the reply!

All the idiot lights come on.

Bad distributor is what the shop has said all 4 times. I no longer believe them, ergo the question here.

I am wondering what else might be making this happen. MAF sensor, ECU, etc.
