Is there any rumbles about a Four Door G Series Coupe in the future? I'm getting flak about the difficulties of getting into the back seat of our '11 G37 Coupe?

There is no such thing as a four door coupe...the additional two doors would make it a sedan :)

Have you test driven a G37 sedan?

But, MB and BMW are offering a Four Door Coupe in the 2015 line up, and I believe there is another McGrath with a four door, and the Mazda RX had, or have a four door. Maybe coupes can have four doors, as sedans used to come with two or four doors. Anyway, I hope Infiniti will offer one, then the grim lets will be quiet..........

The very definition of a coupe is a car with a fixed roof and two doors. It's all marketing in them trying to get more people to purchase their "sporty" sedans. I can call my coupe a truck but that does not make it one :)

Back on the day coupes were the cheapest car in the lineup. They even made some called "Business Coupes" that were made the same way and had a back seat delete.
These coupes all had a B post as do the G Coupes. And the coupes are not the cheapest cars anymore.

Then they made a Hardtop. No B post. and eventually some built 4 door Hardtops. No B Pillar and 4 doors.
I think they eventually were ruled out by safety considerations.

Now they are building 4 door sedans......and sweeping the roof down.....intruding on headroom.......like a coupe.
By tinting windows and such......the B post is hard to see and several different cars look like Hardtops. Including our G coupes.

Some things change. Some things never do.

I would not think the pillar itself or how sweeping a roofline nor how limited headroom is would define "coupe" vs "sedan". BUT, I guess it's interchangeable at this point as the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines sedan as "a 2- or 4-door automobile seating four or more persons and usually having a permanent top".

;) But, but, if MB, Audi, soon-to-be Kia, and Car and Driver call these new designs Four Door Coupes, I ain't going to challenge 'em. I need one to keep the "back seater complainers" quiet, if I live long enough. Last year, a young guy pulled in behind me at a yard sale, and called out,"Whooa, what's an old guy like you doing, driving a car like that?" I defused the situation by admiring the new $7k red paint job on his '52 Ford PU. How many of you remember when we had two and four door sedan?

My insurance company rates my coupe as a sedan...I know previous 2-door and hatch were in similar categories. Simply blurred lines.

I have to say ever since that last WRX concept came out I have been intrigued by the concept of a four door "coupe" and I really like the design of the Tesla model S, the Audi A/S/RS7, BMW 6 & 4 series Gran coupes, and the Porsche Panamera, particularly the hatchback design. It's really too bad the WRX didn't end up looking like that sweet concept, I would be having that as my next car. BMW makes so many permutations of that hatch sedan with the 3 series GT, 4 series GC, 5 series GT, 6 series GC, and I think the 6 is drop dead gorgeous but unfortunately out of my price range. These models are too new to really have any presence on the used car market, so that is out. I guess I'll be staying in my G until something that really fills every need I have is made and affordable. Nissan/Infiniti is eventually going to lose me as a customer if they don't make a car like this.

Well, nobody stopped me so I went ahead and got a 428i gran coupe this weekend. My G's lease is officially up at the end of next month so I have one payment left, I'll probably just turn it in early so I don't have to keep insuring it. If somebody wants a white '12 coupe with the sport package and 30k miles, the residual on mine is about 27k.

Looks nice. I've just never really gotten into BMW's for the most part.

That looks to be one hell of a hill!
