I made a thread earlier about dropping brake fluid levels. But, just now, I discovered the precise location where the brake fluid is leaking. So now that the topic has changed enough, I am making this new thread.

My 1989 240sx Hatch non-abs is spontaneously dribbling brake fluid on the bottom-side where the Master Cylinder bolts to the Brake Booster. It wasn't obvious at first, but I discovered all this once I wiped off all the dirt & debris and followed the stripped paint trail. The brake fluid dribbling is spontaneous and random---which explains why my brake fluid levels have been decreasing at such a slow rate.

Now that I have pinpointed the trouble-area, can you guys point me in the right direction for repairing this leak? What is going on and why?

Thanks in advance.

yeah, new master cyl time. get a nissan master or a good name brand aftermarket. if the parts places have them in stock you can take them out of the box and look on the cyl to see if they say nabco, tokicko, sumitomo, or some other good brand.

Do these aftermarket MC's match OEM specifications?

If anyone here is running an aftermarket MC, give me your impressions of performance. I'd like to preserve the stock brake biasing specs.

Make sure the fluid hasn't been leaking into the brake booster. Brake fluid is one of the most convenient ways to destroy a booster, don't you know.

I definetely have to get that checked as well.I hope the booster's okay

$100 for a new MC I'm willing to shell out, but $250 I don't feel like paying for a new booster.

You can surely find a used one (booster) in good shape here at NICO. Check the B/S/T forums if you end up needing one.

When I had to replace both on my s13, I only recall the booster being about 80, and the master cylinder half of that. They were remanufactured from Oreilly, but they've got a lifetime warranty, so why not?

lifetime warranties are awesome. Make sure you keeep the receipts if you go that route, however.
