Went to the Corvette plant and museum Monday and Tuesday. I found the perfect job for me...heck, I would pay them to work there. There was this one guy and this was his job. When the car got to the end of the line. (it was a black Z06) he looks it over for defects. Cranks it for the first time, squeals the tires and gets sideways on his way to the dyno. Goes in this little booth...gets on the rollers, ramps pop up to keep the car in place and runs the crap out of it. Then, he squeals the tires, gets sideways and heads to a booth that squirts water on it to check for leaks. After that...he squeals the tires, gets sideways and drives it outside. :yesnod What a freakin job!!!

Love the plant and the museum. If you are ever near Bowling Green, KY it is a must. It is just right off of I65. You can see it from the road.

Here is a pic of me sitting by the only 1983 Corvette in existence.

I have read conflicting things. To the best I understand, that was they year they went from the C3 to the C4. There were production problems, so instead of starting the C4 so late in the production year...they crushed and scrapped all the ones they had made except for this one. Can you imagine how much it is worth! :iconeek

That is like when I toured the Don Garlits museum. He had a '70 Superbird that was an orange metallic color. It was the ONLY Superbird painted that color. Wow.

^^^^ Agree more pictures.

Funny how some people worry about the first few hundred miles and in the factory they beat the crap out of it. Before even get to the costumer. LOL

Didn't really take a whole lot. I took some of the 500,000th - 1,000,000th - 1,500,000th Vette to roll off the line, but they just look like normal cars with a big number across the windshield. All of them white with red interiors like all 300 of the 1953s were. They wouldn't let you take any electronics in the plant. I would have loved to have gotten some pics in there.

Here is me, hubby, my crazy friends and some a-hole that thought it was funny to get in our pic. This is at Wet Willies in Louisville, KY. That is what the trip was actually about....going to Churchill Downs. That was awesome.

And I found this cute little fella at a park in Bowling Green. He was so interested in his corn that I could get right up at him.

For some reason I thought there was a red '83 vette that went through BJ auctions as I remember them saying it was the only one built that year....

Hmmmm

Photobomber? I like to bomb from safe distances... You should have asked what they sell the 83 for. I don't know why they'd only save one???

Found this...will Google more when I get a chance.

1983 Corvette photo courtesy of the National Corvette Museum
No 1983 Corvettes were sold. Quality and production problems had delayed introduction of the new C4 generation so 1983 was passed over. 44 1983 cars were assembled. Some were used to sort out production details while others were assigned to engineering evaluation and crash testing. A few were part of a December 1982 press introduction at Riverside Raceway in California.
43 of the 44 1983 C4 Corvettes were destroyed. The one remaining car, number 23 (white), was retired to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green KY where it is now on display. It is still owned by GM.
