I was bored on thanksgiving night and thought I would tackle my sunroof issue. My sunroof would go up and down just fine. When I tried to move it back it would just drop and not go back. I would then hit the button and it would go back to rest in its original spot. It sounded like the motor was working fine but it wasn't pushing the roof back. So, I took the switch panel down and saw the sunroof motor. I then pulled the three black phillip screws out and lowered the motor so I could access it. I couldn't remove it completely cause the plug was too far back in the headliner. I put an allen wrench in the spot where you manually close/open the roof and gave it a spin. It really didn't take much effort. I thought this was kinda weird because it wasn't spining the motor. I took the nut off that was on the other side of that allen bolt (need to flatten the washer under it first)and the three gold phillip screws to remove the cover. To my surprise it has a built in slipper clutch. Thats why it was so easy to spin. I decided to clean the clutch up and reassemble it. I made sure to tighten that nut tighter so the clutch didn't slip so easy. After I got it together I tried the sunroof and WOW, it works!
I have had the car two years and it never worked for me. I hope some of you can use these directions to repair your sunroof.
