I got a T04B for $250 from ebay, and it was brand new. The catch though was that it was a Schwitzer unit, but it's identical to the T04B, so i think i got a good deal. if the guy has good feedback, i'd go for it.

you guys are looking into it too much. He doesn't say it was ran for 40 minutes and now needs to be rebuilt. He says it's rebuilt and he used it for 40 minutes.

You don't have to guess that it's been rebuilt, it says it's rebuilt there there. A turbo doesn't need to be blown for it to have been rebuilt..geez...

the turbine a/r is huge especially if that is a straight t4 96 will be a lag monster on the ka. Maybe good for drag with nitrous?? But I would not use that one.

Glad to hear, I'll stay in touch. I'm in the process of building getting things ready for my ka24e build up (not for a 240 though). It would be very nice to compare notes and see how things go along.

take care

Hey guys I'm doin an ET this summer too. Right now just cleaning up the head. U12 2NR, how did you get ur head so clean, what chemicals did you use? Or did you sandblast it, inside and out? (Is that expensive?) Do you keep the rocker arms/shafts oiled? Are you planning on replacing the shafts/arms/retaining clips? If so, where will you get the new ones, I can't find a good price on them from dealerships. Also, where did you get the nice exhaust flange/collector flange? Sorry to bombard you with questions, but I could really use some fellow ka24e experience advice :)

I'm very impressed/excited. Three summer ka24et projects all within the NY area.

When I removed the head it was DIRTY. I did what I could with a tooth brush and ajax scrubbing podwer to get things cleaned up. Then after i had disassembled the head, I soaked it in Simple Green and water in a bucket, then scrubbed it down again. That was pretty much it, after that it was very clean. The Simple Green does a great job, you can find it in the cleaning section of Home Depot.

I do keep the rockers mildly oiled to prevent any scuffing when the parts rub on each other. I have two sets all packed away in plastic bags. When I'm ready to reassemble everything I'll go ahead and re-use the old parts. Since I have two sets, if i ecounter any problems in the future it's just a simple matter of swapping the parts. As long as they're in good condition you might as well re-use them, gives you extra money to spend elsewhere.

The head flange I bought from http://www.jgstools.com/turbo. You can buy unfinished log manifolds from them. I just bought the head flange so I can make my own turbo manifold. If you plan to make your own manifold, buy the flange from them, it's VERY nice. The T3 flange w/collector I bought from e-bay.

Thanks so much, simple green is what I'll use too:) Btw, sorry one more question; will you be replacing the valve guides, along with those rubbery things on top of them? Did you take them off before you soaked the head?

I want to replace the valve guides, but i'm not too serious about that, when it comes time to reassemble the head i'll make that decision. The rubber things on top of the guides are the valve seals. It's an absolute MUST that you replace those.

Before I soaked the head I took off everything. I rented a valve spring compressor from auto-zone. You get your money back when you return it, so it's free. I rented it because a valve spring compressor isn't something i'll be using alot and i didn't wanna waste money behind it. The one from auto zone works, but it takes a bit more work than the regular c-clamp ones.

I see... Yeah I took off everything BUT the valve guides and seals, and now I'm gonna soak the head in simple green. If I have to replace the seals anyway, I may as well leave them on and then when I put it back together just replace them.

Thanks for your help, keep your progress posted :)

When i soaked it the valve seals were off. Only thing left on the head was the guides.

That's without the valve seals, and just the guides. You can see the ported intake side good in that pic.
