Got a lot taken care of today. Fist of all I found the source of my annoying coolant leak. Suprise! Its the result of another one of my screwups!!

Looks like when I put this fitting on, I pinched the little port there just enough to puncture it a tiny bit. It looks in the pic like there is a big hole there but there isnt, its just caved in a little with a smallllll hole. Dammit. $12.37 from Nissan.

Alllso on a lighter note I decided to clean up my intake manifold since I have it off. Per Ivan's advice I painted it with rattle can Duplicolor "cast coat aluminum" 500 degree paint.

Pics? OK!

I decided to do just the upper part of the intake mani because thats all you'll really see, and also the lower part just has too much crap on it to take off... Not worth it when you wont really see it at all. I did clean the lower at least.

Well, things are coming together slowly but... okay just slowly haha ... It'll be done soon though, promise!!

No jokes about my contact mirror!!

Good job on the painting.

Is the intake mani being held up with a string? O_o

i think i asked this before, but i couldnt find the thread. what is the PITA bolts/screws to get out to get the upper intake mani off. i soon will have to replace mine as i stupidly broke off the bleeder valve screw within the hole, and i know that will take a miracle to extract without leaving metal shavings withing the tract of the coolant path. i figure it'll be easier to just replace the upper intake mani than go thru the extraction process.........enuff rambling, so which bolts and where

haaha yeah its being held up by a coat hangar that I twisted around on itself... Now that I look at that pic again it does sorta look like its hanging there.

Ugh my local dealership doesnt have this part in stock so they had to order it... its gonna prob be more than a week before I get what I need to put this stuff back together

Theres no real point to trying to take off just the upper portion of the intake manifold, because you cant get it completly off without at least loosening the supports on the bottom half. Both the head and the lower intake manifold have 2 studs (not bolts) on the end that the upper part slides on to, which prevent you from taking the top part off without taking the bottom at least mostly with it.

That said, the worst bolts are the ones that secure the mani to the head, there are 8 I beleive, 4 top and 4 bottom on the head... the bottom ones are the real pain but they can be handled with a combination of box end wrenches and a driver with mucho extensions and an elbow. Dont be afraid to jam your hands up in there!

you need to get on a first name basis like i am with my dealer. i've been there so much over the past 2-3 years they all know me. usually i get 25% off too from certain which frees up the money to overnight parts. they hardly every have anything in stock for us
