Went to go take a look at the 1991 240sx SE tonight.. Nice to say the least, but with some imperfections.. I checked out the entire car and drove around aimlessley for about 30 mins; here are the bad things I noticed about it.. :

The brakes seemed like they had heat fade, -when they were cold!- But after driveing for about 10 mins the binders were working smoothly, without the hesitation and bumpy stop they delivered for the first few laps around the highway/rotarys..

The front left fender is pushed in a little with some minor scratches.. Owner said someone backed into the car in a parking lot....

Rear back quarterpanel has a long scratch down it, no dent.. Contiueation of previous accident, but the door is unscathed.

The tape deck is crapped out, rear speakers blown, and paint as peeled off where car was hit (See above) in some very miniscule areas..

The hydraulic pumps, that holder up the trunk thingys are dead.. Would use a pole with tennis balls until replacements could be scavenged.

The rest of the car is in awsome condition.. It was resprayed right before the scratches, so it is nice and vibrant red/black.. No leaks around any windows, interior is unscratched, all of the controls work, and dashboard is uncracked.

It handles right between my friends miata and my saab 900 (w/ sticky dunlops), kinda one of those 'best of both worlds' things.

The tires are brand new Toyos, with 2k miles on them.

Also the rubber was put to good use.. All gears engage smoothly, the clutch was smooth and crisp, and power was readily abaiavble.. Brought the car to 96 and then slowed it down (Was using the plates off of my truck, stuck it in rear window of the 240)no vibration, and it took the rotary's tight turn like a bat out of hell..

Heel toeing was so much easier than in the wrx or the saab 900.. The brake pressure I use to slow at speeds around 45-65 leveled out with the gas pedal preciseley for my big stompers..

No excessive engine sweat, no fluid leakage.. No 'wrong' smells anywhere. Of course it comes with the trademark 240 rust under spoiler, but one hasto try and bend it up to see any rust..

The asking price was $2500.00, and I got her down to $1900.00, should I go for it?

Also if anyone knows what was up with the brakes, please post, or IM me at g0stx on AIM for more info..

You never mentioned how many miles on her if I checked correctly, also see if it has had the timing chain done, that is the weakest link in the ka motor.

Depending on milage, I think you could find a better 240 for that price. Good luck regardless.

Yeah, engine had a full tuneup at 90k miles, includeing replacement of all belts, timeing chain, and ignition wires.

En total the car has... 120345 miles on it.. But 80% are all highway.. Owner commuted from boston to burbs..

I also had a quote from a local body shop saying that a 2tone paintjob would run me $500 with their 1/2 price special, and $200 to fix the fender and rear quarter panel, although I am gonna barter on that one. Not bad for a premium paintjob

Also, there arent many nice 240's for sale around where I am at (Worcester MA area). This was 1 of 4 I found over the course of the last 3 months that has been worth looking at.

i think 1900 for only 120 000 miles on it sounds good, i mean theres nothin big wrong wih it or nothin that has to be imediately done to it when u buy it so if i were u i would go for it..but of course its your decision, oh by the you should go to http://www.kbb.com and look up the blue book value of the car

If it runs as well as you say, the body work can be repaired later. Look at what your will be keeping: are you going SR and dont care about the motor? then make sure the interior is great (it is, so cool). Are you going all motor N/A? then a well running strong engine is the starting point (it seems to be). FYI back in 1996 i bought a 1983 Mazda RX7 with no paint, a trashed interior and bald tires for $1200, so $1900 for a good 240 with a little body imperfections isnt bad at all. I say go for it. But then again i LOVE the S13 chassis (coupe or fastback, one day i will own both!).

I am running the car with coilovers and an intake/exaust this summer, with some interior spurce ups.. thats it. I am leaveing this june-august for basic training, and hopefully will have Dauntless babysit my car and cram the SR20 into it while I am training and not useing any of my income for anything else =).

And then when I am out of WOCD, i can have my baby badk with JDM front, or maby the bear conversion with a better front valiance.. can't decide yet..

meh, i am just idleing here, working a part time job, sans fun car.. So i's figure i want a 240 a year back, and now I have the chance to have one.. Fincally it may not be the most genious thing I have done, but it will keep me preoccupied and happy.. Thats what counts. Plus now I can keep up with my friends' cars.. Dumb Andy thinks hes all that with his parents jag...

So in the long run it will work out.. This way I get the interior i want, with the mechanical properties I want.. Not nessecarily instantly.. But driveing the KA will give me a feel for the car so I can tell Daunt better what I wish from the SR swap and such..

Dude go for it. If you want the car, get it. I can almost 100% guruantee that you won't regret buying it. Especially if you have all of those mods planned for it. $1900 isn't bad at all. I bought my 95 with 115,000 for $4500. So that is not bad at all. If the timing chain was just replaced and it has new Toyo's, sounds like your set. I would do it, especially since there aren't that many good 240's in your area. You will have to wait a long time to come across another good one, in good condition. Good luck!Josh

Gruby, I fell in love with my friends Audi A4 gauge color... And I want mine to glow red like them. (not the actual gauges, just the #'s and pics). How did you do yours, or where did you get them?

Yeah man all I did was replace 4 bulbs on the back of the gauge cluster. The bulbs are red, you can get them at Pep Boys on the RICE isle. They are like 200 something. They are itty bitty bulbs. I followed directions on this web site to do it, but it might have been the old one so let me search and see if I can find it. E mail me if you want more specifics.Josh
