that key charger located near under the steering wheel sucks! both my keys kept ending up as "low battery" from the warning no matter how many times I charged it.

looked online about how to charge the key and people say to change the battery. what's the point of having a key charger then in the first place.....

then one day i accidentally left my key in the pocket and washed and dried it with my clothes.

it came out charged and not low anymore!

seccond time i just put the key in a dried sock and let it tumbled with my other clothes being dried in the drying machine. static charge =]

for me this method lasts about 2-3 months.

It's not a battery charger. It's to be used if the battery in your fob dies. You use the key to enter the car and insert the fob into the slot so you can start it.

I don't think the risk of washing or drying your key fob is worth the cost of buying a $3 battery. Buying a new one and getting it programmed at the dealer is costly. I got charged $54 to program a 2nd one....

1. Key holder is not a charger.2. Your dryer did not charge the battery with static electricity... what school did you go to?3. The battery is better because of the heat it went through in the dryer. Heat accelerates the particles within the battery itself, thus creating energy. The reverse happens when you put a battery in the freezer. The particles slow down, less reactions, less power. Ever notice if you start your car in the winter if it's been sitting in the cold for a long time it's hard to crank over? That's because the battery is low and cold.

Static electricity, that's hilarious. Screen shot taken.

I can't belive this..

It's a f***ing $3.00 battery!! We all spent a lot of money modding our cars (some of the mods are completly unnecesary, just a matter of taste) and we can't buy a $3 battery??

And.....oh My God!! you wash and dry your intelligent key!!!!!!

That's crazy! This thread is crazy!!

Agreed. Putting your key through the dryer is a dumb idea.

If the battery costs only $3 then why not just buy it. Seriouly it's not worth it to keep putting your key into the dryer. The remote is going to cost WAY MORE than just buying a new battery. The slot near the trunk release does not charge the remotes battery.

Calm down guys and lets show weix9860 the real side of us. Not a bunch of immature kid acting buttholes. I'm not calling anyone names. I'm just saying this is not the proper way to make a good first impression of our NICO Family/Community to a person who has joined.

agreed, lol dude just joined and everyones acting like he should magically know this. i'm sure alot of us were told that it was a charger, n most of us believed it for a while till we tried it out. now he's prolly not going to come back cuz everyone was being a d!ck. anyways, welcome to the forums dude. Usually everyone here's pretty nice...usually lol

Yea, thats why you put it in the slot by the trunk release. It's an RFID sensor and it doesn't require a battery to work, the battery simply amplifies the signal so you don't have to take it out of your pocket and the car can tell the fob is nearby. When the battery dies you use the slot so its directly by the RFID reader and it can pick up the signal without it being amplified.

Dude, it's not your fault.... most car dealers are idiots, and don't know anything about the product that they are selling...

My wife and I bought our 2010 Altima in the fall of 2011,w 34k on it, The seller was showing us where to put the key fob to charge it. Saying " Now you dont have to charge it up every time you drive it" Another year goes by and a one fob shows low battery and it not charging, I go to the dealer ( its under warranty you know),,,,To be told the truth. We got a good laugh seeing this article , thanks,
