I need another car like I need a hole in the head but this one found me.I still have a 1965 CJ-5 that I have started putting a 327 V8 in and never got around to finishing it. So I know my wife will say sweetly when the Jeep is done we can talk about another project car.

I am working on a friends 2000 Sentra and went to a junk yard to get some parts. In front of the parts car is this decent looking 1971 240z.

I asked about it and today I went back to take some pictures. The price is $1000, if it were $500 it would be in my garage but this looks like plenty of work.

The VIN is HLS30 41193Block casting is L28 524836Head is a N42Transmission is a 5spd

Pros, nice 2 pcs 14" rims with 235/60/14s on them5spdN42 headdual weber carbsGarfeild etched into the rear windows :-)bolt in roll cage

At the risk of someone finding the car and buying it out from under me here come the pictures

Parts car. Maybe worth $500.

Just to get all the bondo and crap off the body is gonna run you more than 2-3x your initial investment, and that stuff holds water, which = rust.

Find a solid shell - The amount of work will LOOK to be more, but will actually be less.

I live in the same town, have $1K sitting on my desk from some parts I sold Monday, and I'm not interested... That should tell you something.

If you're looking, let me know - I know of a few that might be available,

This is a project that I want to do but the timing is really bad... need to finish the Jeep to make space, no disposable income, sick kid ect ect If I could get it home for $500 I would do it.

The car looks like it could have the coolant flushed, battery charged and the oil changed and just start right up. I really hate what someone did to the back end of it with the 1988 parts and all that fiberglass.

I like that is has a 280z engine and transmission already.

I always am shopping for 240z's and frequently see runners for $2000-$3000 in various condition. There is a 1970 runner in Tucson right now for $3000 on craigs list that would probably be a much better deal in the long run.

What?

Jeff, I've seen the Tucson car. It's nowhere near worth $3K.

I think we need to talk / meet up and go shopping. I can show you my Z and what's gone into just getting it roadworthy.

Anytime, buddy - I live about 20 miles due north of you.

Honestly, even for free, it's a bigger investment than just starting with a good car to begin with.

I am sure you know more about Z cars then I do.

What year is the wreck next to it? It had what looked like 88 2 seat written on the windows in crayon. The tail lights were identical. I guess it could have just as easily said 86 2 seat hu.

I am sure your right but I still have to ask if they will sell it to me for $300.

I think I could have this wreck running for another $300 but it would still look bad. It might be fun if I could make it a runner for under a grand, and I do like to work on cars. Later if I did a skyline tt motor or a small block ford/chevy I wouldn't feel as bad doing it in a 41000 series car then a lower serial number.

Anytime you want to wrench on a 72, you're welcome to spend a day in the garage on this one... it's getting an RB25DET transplant.
