Mounted it up today. Got it for about $45.00, so I don't really feel like I got ripped. I did have to make two new holes in the top of the can for 5/8" push-lock hose fittings and plug the hole in the bottom side (near the sight-tube), since that fitting was too small to use.

I removed the upper and lower end caps, suspecting that the gaskets might be deteriorated from sitting on the shelf for a while. Good thing I did. It had those crappy, red, hard-paper gaskets that break as soon as you look at them funny. I removed all the cracked chunks of gasket and re-sealed without a gasket, using ultra-gray RTV.

The can is not internally baffled, so I fluffed up some steel wool and stuffed the tank, in an effort to trap the oil blow-by.

The bracket they give with the unit is a strip of aluminum about 5/32" thick, pre-drilled (like a piece of plumbing strap). I just bent and cut as needed.

Just thought I'd give a short writeup on it, in case anyone is lookin' at this unit to buy. It needs a slight amount of fabrication, but nothin' crazy.

Here are some pics (click for large view):

is that how you would route the catch can in an NA application. PCV -> catch can -> Intake pipe ?If you had to get another brand, one that is internally baffled, which would you get?

In stock form, that PCV line goes directly into the intake plumbing, so yes, you'd run it from the V.C. > Can > Intake pipe.

Not sure about any other brands. Seems like the more common names (Greddy, HKS, etc.) were over $100 and I just can't justify that. This unit cost me $45 and steel wool is cheap.

I can say this...while the catch can is obviously no cure for worn out rings, it certainly did make a difference in oil blow-by with this engine, which has nearly 200k miles on it (YUP...boostin' it and beatin' it like a government mule!). I'll still run the can on the engine I'm currently building because of the obvious benefits.

I just ordered a Circuit Sports mini oil catch tank for around the same price from Phase 2. Looks good man!

Do any hoses or mounting hardware come with the Circuit Sports Mini?

Is there any performance degradation if you use a canister that is too large?

I don't think it really matters so much on the size. All you need is a slight vacuum in the line created by the intake air (venturi effect). As long as there's no notable restriction in the canister, there should be sufficient flow to scavenge the PCV system.

I would have settled for a mini-can as well, but this was hangin' out at my local ricer-store, and I just said, "Hey, you've had that for a while, make me a deal." And there we go. In all honesty, I'm sure I could have gotten the same "deal" online, since local shops tend to gouge.

Thanks for the above compliments. With a can that large and a bunch of turbo crap (pipes and BoV's and whatnot) in the engine bay, it was tricky finding an adequate mounting spot. So, I just held the can up there in front of the motor and thought to my self, "Self?...What if you could mount that right there?" The rest kinda fell together.

I just got it when I got home. Looks awesome! Very shiny.... anyhow its the length of about a dollar maybe less (smaller than I excepted but that's good).... it does include tubes and all... although I dont know about the mounting hardware... I assume so since it has another bag with some stuff in it.... but I was in a rush and only quickly looked at it.

+1 for Phase 2... awesome packaging and great service not to mention fast shipping. Will do business again!

Sweet. I will probably go with that one. I like the cylinder shape. Definately post pics when you get it installed.

I dont know about oil catch cans but it seems like to me their universal? Because my Lifted Jeep Cherokee has a lot of miels and has some nice blow by going on, and i could benifit from one. Can I just get a can like mentioned above and just get my own rubber hoses or whatever is necessary and hook it up? I really dont want to get oil all in my new K&N so is this plausible.. thanks guys

Yep, they're universal. Just make sure you have space for whatever you buy.
