So, this was a sort of WTF moment when I saw this rigged job performed by the previous owner of my 4x4 rig. What looks like a oil line going into the front diff, the thing has been crimped off as shown in the picture.

The 4x4 still works and the diff has fluid, but can I use the 4x4 when this line has been crimped off?

diffs don't have oil lines as far as I know. It is probably just the breather piping

used to think all diffs were sealed but I filled one and left for a year and accidently had it upside down, I came home to a bunch of oil on my shelf.

I think your fine man.

Ok...now that you mention that, I can see that it is some kind of breather tube.

They had a bunch of really rigged components on this truck and really after I bought it, after having more time to REALLY look at it, I started to get scared. The frickin coolant was so rusted out that it looked like a chocolate milkshake! (not a head gasket, but questionable at first glance)

Truth is that this truck is a testament to how much abuse the 720 can withstand. We should create an award for 'Most Abused and Long Lived 720'.

from what I can gather the rust is due to someone not using distilled water and probably just filling it with a garden hose and it rusting a bit of the metal.

If you started overheating and your coolant is red, you might wanna get new coolant in there.

mine was brown.

The first thing I did was change out the brown coolant, and run distilled water mixed with cooling flush for a week. Once I was satisfied with the results, I used a high pressure water line to flush out the stubborn remaining rust deposits in all of the cooling circuits individually. Then I used the old 50/50 coolant distilled water mix.

So far Ive put over 4000 miles on the truck with this coolant and no rust has returned. The real trick was to use high pressure water on the residual sludge in the system.

With a backward flow of course. In the top out the bottom.
