I'd like to get a SR20DET powered S14 into the mid-low 13s at sea level and be reliable for a weekly commute for 400 miles. Here's what I'm thinking:

95-96 240SX - $5000 (Unless I can find one in cosmetically good condition with a blown engine and transmission for less)

S13 blacktop SR20DET with install and all necessary belts, fluids, intake and a/f + boost guages - $4200

Greddy 3 inch DP - $170ish?

Apex'i N1 single exhaust - $420

Greddy Profec B - $330

Clutch of some sort - $350

Apex'i S-AFC - $340

Walbro 255 fuel pump - $120

Miscellaneous shipping / problems with SR20DET - $1000

Total: $11,760

Is there any market for the stock KA engine and exhaust to cut the cost down some?

What kind of oil filter does the SR20DET use and where can they be purchased?

Is the S-AFC necessary at this point, or do you not need that until you get injectors?

What clutch is recommended?

Instead of going with the Apex'i N1 exhaust, would it be just as beneficial if I had a local exhaust shop make a custom 3 inch exhaust?

Thanks. :)

I have a FRAM on mine. Next time I get a chance I'll take a peek at the box lid I have and get you the part number.

If not mistaken Nissan was nice enough to make the RPS13's Black top oil filter different from the S14's

Thanks, Red. All I was really wondering if they are readily available in the US or if you'd have to import them. :) I've heard horrible horrible horrible things about Fram filters, though (At least, I know it holds true for the 3000GT - basically they're very poorly made, have fallen apart on people, and do not have an anti drainback valve).

I've heard they mess up your flywheel in a year or something. My excuse to get a lightened flywheel if it's true. I got a killer deal on my clutch, so it'll work for me

Thanks for the info guys, keep it coming - especially about if those are enough mods to hit low 13s. Would a FMIC be necessary? :)

As far as application specific exhausts, I have a question about that. I don't know if I'm going to get flamed for this or not, but if I go this route I wouldn't want my car to sound like a Honda / Focus / Cavalier with a fart cannon. Extremely loud, huge resonance, and generally annoying. Is that a characteristic of small displacement four cylinder engine, or is it possible for that sound to be avoided? No offense meant to anyone who likes what I just described, but it's not really my style.

Yeah I dont like you,:PAnyway, a FMIC is a must if you intend on getting into the 13's. As far as exhaust goes, the turbo hinders the extreme sound that some NA cars tend to give off. Just get something with very few bends and a large diameter pipe. Like the ApexI GT Spec.

If you want the ultimate quiet. GReddy SP. Only thing you'll hear is your BOV. It's so quiet. My buddy has it on his SR.

What speedracer just said is very much true. My old integra GS-R was super loud when I first got exhaust for it. The day I slapped on a turbo and got it running, it wasn't even half as loud as it was. What happens is that the turbine of the turbo slices the sound notes into a bunch of smaller ones which leads to less sound coming out after it.
