Formula D. How does it work?

Ok, help this old guy understand this.

I know that, for the most part drifting is for fun and show. How does the competition part of it work? Is it a race? Is it for show and judged? How do they determine who is the winner in Formula D?

Thanks.

Do they run multiple cars at a time or just one?

Yes they do multiple cars at a time. In actual competion they run two cars at once. You are basically supposed to out-drift your opponent. Faster speeds, trying to pass bigger angles. often times the cars end up less than a foot apart. (in my local drift scene there have been a couple occasions when riding copilot when I prolly could have opened the drivers door of the car next to me) Lots of fun major rushAJ

Also meant to say that at sometimes for fun like at the end of a d1 comp just for a crowd pleaser they will drift 12 13 14 or as many cars as they can together. quite a sight to see

WRONG.

Passing is NOT a part of the game. If that was the case, people like Sam Hubinette driving 700hp mopar vipers would win everything. This isn't NASCAR. This didn't apply in the first Formula D due to lack of organization, but in subsequent Formula D and ALLL D1 events. You do NOT pass unless you can do so while maintaining your exact same line (unless a spin or other opponent mistake forces you to alter your line). This means that it's impossible to pass unless your opponent makes a mistake. It's not a race, the point of the game isn't to pass, it's to either make ground or gain ground towards or between your opponent.

^ that's why you will see people advancing to the next round even if they didn't pass the other car.

i thought that in D1 if you pass the person who started in front while maintaining a drift then you win, unless the person passes you in the next round while maintaining a drift. I'm probobly wrong though, lol

sorry about the mis info on passing. I do remember on several occasions hearing that passing can add points. But Just clarify I never said that if you get passed you are out. AJ
