I've been having naughty thought lately about getting something a bit more street friendly then my 300 whp, 2100lb 240Z, been thinking about a turbo or SC, 350Z, seems very few put anything over 400whp, and with all the added weight I feel like I'd need a solid 450whp, why idea what it would take and where the weakpoints are? i know the L6 would take 400whp before the cast pistons melted but the 350 has forged internals right? I won't be making a move anytime soon, just trying to educate myself before I make a decision

I think the weak point of the "earlier" 350z's was the connecting rods were weak in all except the track models. I believe this has been resolved in current renditions of the Z's VQ35

Connecting rod bolts is a quick fix, I think that has been proven as the weak link in the car.

Cant believe i got props for that in the 350Z forum... maybe there are people out there in touch with reality!!!

but with all the stuff thats available for the VQ, its almost stupid to try and swap something else in, mainly for the PITA factor.

Yep there are no easy swaps.....yet.....hopefully the new GTR engine from what I understand is a variant of the VQ35HR will drop in the Z. The old school Nissan engines were more boost friendly and mod friendly for sure, I have 240 also with a SR in it, what a great little engine.

after driving a lightly modified C5 at the autocross I was blown away with it's braking and turning, it was slow but braking a turning that were beyond anything I had experienced, I am just not a Vette guy, and the 350 from what I've read can't touch the vette in turning or braking but it would sure as hell be a step up from the 240Z, the only thing I got going for me is fast, but that comes at a cost, and the thought of something a bit more refined and streetable is sounding like a better idea, and it woud in theory be one car to replace 2 ( the 240Z and the 300ZXTT) and I gotta say, the black 350 has really grown on me, I won't do anything till after the first of the year and if I do ti will likely be an early model so I might hae to plan on upgraded rods to go with whatever means fo forced induction

on a side note I have owned black cars (hell the 300ZXTT si black) and it sucks, it's impossible to keep clean and you get a third degree burn opening the door but it just looks so damned goon on the Z33

Those make great track/auto x wheels.

All Dave will have to do is some of his motor magic and the car would be the perfect car for him.

And Dave....This one won't be too fast for paint. so you will have to wash it and stuff.

like I said, right now just a thought, got other prioities, just forwod thinking, and with the outrageous cost of the kits I am considering doing it my way and fab it all and megasquirt it although with the popularity of the Z33 right now an off the shelf stand alone might be an option

You know that the 350z is a good platform with lots of aftermarket options; it is a Z car after all.

I think that you thoughts are on point and I will only encourage you to go for it.
