So I'm pretty much fed up with the all of the factory electronics. It's just one headache after another and I'm very interested in getting a Haltech. I've looked over many stand alones and think the e6x suits my needs the best. I was hoping those of you who had some experience could give some insight.

1. Keep the factory tps or use the haltech? Any advantages to either aside from extra dough out of my pocket?

2. Coolant temp sensor. It says it fits 95% of vehicles. Will it screw right in or am I going to have to retap it? I'm assuming the stock location is the best place.

3. I want to ditch the stock coilpacks in favor of possibly some ls1 coils with built in ignitors. Anyone have anything better they can recommend?

4. The idle controller...is it necessary. Yay or nay?

5. Last question. The new harness should have wires to connect to the lower harness? So everything will function through the haltech.

Thanks for any input ahead of time. I'm open to suggestions.

I dont have experience with the haltech system but most of the standalone systems on the market are similar in terms of parts and certain functions, so I could provide a little insight.

Quote »1. Keep the factory tps or use the haltech? The only reason I would see to use it is if they dont allow you to use the factory one.
Is their any possibility of using the stock coolant sensor? I checked the haltech installation guide and checked the sensor section, and just so you know it says it uses a 3/8 NPT Coolant Temp Sensor its a GM sensor. That is a BIG SENSOR. Just to give you an idea my Megasquirt system is setup for GM sensors but I have the option of changing to whatever sensor I want as long as I know the resistance values. Anyways I tried to see if I can fit the 3/8 NPT coolant sensor and their was too much of a possibility of it not fitting and damaging the coolant port of the intake manifold. But the common rule is to get the sensor as close to the head as possible for accurate reading. If you can see if you can use the stock coolant sensor I can give you the resistant values at certain temps. To give you can idea of big the GM CTS and Nissan CTS are here are some pics.

Quote »4. The idle controller...is it necessary. Yay or nay?
Are you refering to the stock idle control setup? If so sure why not, you could delete it all but you'd be left with a high idle usually around 1200-1500rpms.

Quote »5. Last question. The new harness should have wires to connect to the lower harness? He pretty much nailed it. I'm using a GM sensor with my SDS, but you'll definatly have to drill and tap the manifold to make it work.

Haltech sells their own idle controller, due to the fact that I think most of the haltech systems ditch the stock iac.

Thanks for all of the info. It's greatly appreciated since I haven't found too many of these answers around online. I'm just so fed up with mafs and coil on plugs at this point.

There's also two sensors that can be used with the haltech. I forgot to mention I was referring to the smaller metric one. This one actually http://www.tweakit.net/shop/pr...=1355

It's cheap enough and seems to be the same as the one you posted.

If i recall correctly you cannot use the stock TPS. I made up a small adapter plate to mount the GM on the TB. The system comes with the sensor is it not extra.

I compared the resistance values of the GM sensor and the Nissan one and they were almost identical so i just wired the nissan sensor. You are tuning this all anyways just its just relative to itself.

I am still using stock coils and ignitor.

Nay on the idle controller. I have a clean idle at 850 RPM.

No input on the lower harness. I am FWD.

The e6x is compatible with the stock tps and also does not come with a tps. You have to buy most of the sensors extra. Thanks for the idle controller headsup though.
