One simple question. Is the vh45de swap into a s-chasis a waste of time and money or is it well worth it. For the ones who have it can you explain how the motor feels and drives? Thanks.. Im looking into the swap but not alot of people say if they like it or hate it.

Gotta have a Accusump IMO. I get oil surge problems with mine (Z32 and a rear sump) under braking...

It feels like a V8 in a light RWD car. You'd have to be a moron to not like that.

Read that thread, and the thread that's linked in there as well, they both cover some of the oiling questions.

A dry sump will almost always be better the only problem is cost. If you have the know-how and $$$ then go for it but otherwise you can do a couple things to the wet system and not usually have a problem.

For me it was the limited space for the sump and no real baffling in mine. Under heavy braking the oil pressure drops.

To fix it I would have to move the engine back a few inches to get more clearance for a bigger sump and add some decent baffling and maybe make a trapdoor sump. I can't be bothered though :p

A dry sump uses external pumps and keeps all the oil in a separate reservoir. Very good system specially for track cars, but yes, mega $$.

A drifter friend of mine said that adding more oil to the level would do wonders at the track. As he would see time and time again that people would "rattle" their motors, caused by oil starvation. If you just add an extra quart, then you would be fine.

So you telling me that if i add and extra quart or half quart i wont have problems with oil pressure drops? also what are your thoughts on the adpater plates that a flywheel spacer instead of having the bellhousing machined?

I am saying that his recommendation has saved my motor a time or two. As I used to have a KA-T and I rattled it from oil starvation, but since I have over-filled my motors by a quart, I haven't had any issues, so far. I know it plays havoc with splashing around, but loss of pressure is way worse.

On the adaptor question, the only difference is preference. I like the machined bell-housing to keep the transmission flush with the engine, as I am not a fan of spacers between the crank and flywheel.

Ill give you about how much mine cost
JDM VH45DE $761
Z32 Transmission $230
Harness $50
Z1 Clutch kit and lightweight flywheel $794 (totally worth it !) :)
SPL Bronze Shifter Bushing $26.10
Mishimoto Rad plus 16" fan $150 (craigslist used)
Mount Kit Xcessive $432.25
Adapter Plate Xcessive $397.10
Walbro 255lph Pump $110
Shifter Relocation $140.13
Parts Car $400 dollars how lucky you are on how many parts you can use
BTW q45 Diff swap is hard unless you can get an axle from a tt easy. So add up everything and you still got quite a bit more to go.

For those doing this swap, what differential are you using? Stock differential or something taller than stock?

I'm using a Q45 differential with Q and Ztt DS axles + Z32 rear hubs.

Shoot me an email and I'll give you the phone number of the guy I got my Z32 axle from. He may have another. Make sure you know that you'll need the Z32 twin turbo driver's side axle... NA won't fit.

Just to confirm... Q45 differential, Driver's side Z32TT axle on driver's side, Driver's side Q45 axle on passenger side. This is how you have it, correct?

the halfshaft came from a manual or auto though? because if the fsm states that from spider gear to spider gear that the auto is shorter than wouldnt that make the shaft shorter?

I can find absolutely no evidence anywhere that the half shafts are shorter... Mine was from a manual just so you know. I can't imagine them using two different length driver side shafts on the Z32 twin turbo...

could you order the correct axels from a DSS or something like that? do you need to get a shorter driveshaft from the trans to the diff?
