The best full range of sound i ever had in a car was when i hooked up a 12 in a sealed box up with a 12 in a transmission line box in one of my cars. It had the qualities of the seald complimented by the deep tline sound. I am thinking about get a 10 and a 12 and putting the 10 in a sealed box and the 12 in a vented box for my s13. I want someone who knows about sound quality for this one caus im not trying to blowing the hatch open just get good smooth all around sound. Also, i will most likely use rockford hx2 subs and JBL/Rockford amps.

Make sure you run each sub with its own independant amp, so you can optimize the xovers and power for each sub. Also if your going for quality i'd build your own boxes to the recommended specs of the subs. Will help you out immesensly in not have a crappy sounding setup.

From my experiance, JL Audio has really smooth sounding subs. You can get 2 ten's in a Power wedge box and have punchy, but smooth sounding bass for all types of music. Kickers coulndn't really handle all the different types of music, but handled bass extremely well. It all depends on how much power and sound you want. Ultimiatley it will be up to you on what you alike and what you decide. Good luck.

Traditionally the small sealed enclosures will yield the flattest frequency response, therefore it is the enclosure of choice for SQ. As far as the sub goes... I just heard the new JL 12w6 in a Maxima in a small sealed enclosure with 600wRMS and it was really impressive. About anything from Image Dynamics has my stamp of approval for SQ. I believe that my next sub will be Image Dynamics. We'll see.
