Right now i have a 12'' and a 10'' sub sitting around, and i would really like to set it up (the 12..). From the other thread, i was shocked to find out that adding a sub disproportionalizes the quality/output

but i am sure that people here have posted pictures of Subs in there trunk!

please help! i want BASS ><

It depends... Do you have the base sterio, or the Bose?

I have the base sterio, and I chose to keep it and just add an amp/sub. Sure, the quality with such a setup is not as good as with a new deck, but I think it looks much cleaner and damn chaper.

The shop put in a high-to-low converter, or something like that, between my stock deck and the sub. They also made a custom box so my 12' fits perfectly.

It all depends on how much you want to spend, really. If you want the best sound, without compromises, then replace the deck, speakers, and add an amp/sub.

To get a Sub in there, you will need a new amp, just for the sub.

The little amp that comes with the Bose is completely integrated, not to mention weak, so it's best not to touch it.

Go to a relatively decent car stereo shop and they should certainly be able to hook up a new amp/sub to your current deck. The Bose system should not be effected.

Here's a picture of my setup; nothing over the top, but fits great! Got a Alpine 12' and a 500w Alpine amp behind it.

I have the Bose system and it didn't truly come alive until I installed my subs.

Is installing a new amp ganna affect anything else? I dont mind paying a lil more for a amp as long as i have good base. And i already have my woofers ready....

Also some kid at Bestbuy told me i needed to replace my entire deck... i was thinking in my head "wtf? u must be kidding me, i have to give up my 6cd changer?"

but i hope to get more info on this as i will be buying the amp after i comfirm wat i need.

thanks

Ms. Lanaya,if they are not using a cap, it's definately draining their system (battery and alternator life) whether its apparent through dimming head lights or not.

If you get a subwoofer and extra amp to power it, the only way to do it correctly and not cause unnecssary drain on your car's charging system is to add a capacitor. General rule of thumb is to add 1 farad of capacitance for every 1000 watts RMS power used in your system. Most will couple this with a yellow top deep discharge battery.

Keep in mind, what I'm stating is for optimal stereo setup. Right now, without a yellow top battery, if either of the individuals above leave their stereo on without the car cranked and alternator running, they would probably kill their battery in about 5 - 10 minutes! With a yellow top, you can run a powerful subwoofer setup for 90 mins to 2hrs, and then just crank the car up, it'll run perfectly. Just a bit of FYI!

I know what your saying, I have 2 jlw3's and a jl mono amp, and a stinger cap (1 farad) but Im wondering can this be put in my car without going to get it installed? (the cap) thats the only part Im worried about installing myself

I ripped it all out of my old car even the wiring, I might need some new wiring unless its long enough to reach. But when the system was installed, Soundsaround installed it. I just dont trust someone else touching my car, customer service has taken a dive in my opinion.

It would be nice to know, am I needing anything else? whats the most difficult part of the install?

I'm not running a cap with my system and have not had any issues with power drain or lights dimming. Then again my days of sitting in a parking lot with my system running without my car on are long gone. Only time my stereo is cranked with the bass up is when I'm driving so I'm not concerned about adding a cap. However, I definitely agree that it would take some strain off of my charging system and might be something I add in the future when I run out of other mods. Just not on the top of my priority list...
