This article is a great reminder why you should always be aware of what you're using when working/cleaning parts on your car. This very easily could have been me with as many times as i've used brake cleaner. Hopefully it's never you!

Gah this makes me feel like I was such a reckless kid in my youth. In my autotech class we'd always light brake cleaner on fire, or spray it on vacuum lines to find vaccum leak.

wow, my husband uses brake clean and other chemicals in the garage all the time being a mechanic. I even have a can of brake clean in my laundry room that I use when I find grease on his clothes or my 2 teenage boy's clothes!

My husband just told me to "be careful with your fake nails, the cleaner will eat them". UGH...

He washes his hands with the stuff. I often wonder what it's doing to his skin and beyond!!!?

I think the guys use it to start the fire pit outside too!!? I'm definitely going to make all 3 of them read the above article.

Using anything that can drive what is on the outside of your skin to the inside is not a good idea.

I have HAD friends that have learned this the hard way. I wish I still HAVE them.

You should buy your hubby some gloves. You should always spray chemicals in a well ventillated area, away from open flames.

My brother had leukemia in 1992 (still alive) but possibly caused from work conditions. In the last few years several of my mechanic types of friends have bit the dust as well. Solvents on your skin is not a good thing. Benzene is a known leukemia agent (most of us run into every few days or more often). Then there are the hundreds of other substances we just don't know about. Avoidance is a good idea.
