As I was putting on my turbo today I noticed that the little flap the wastgate actuates was welded close (see pic). My question is with an internally wastegated turbo how does it maintain the stock 6 psi of boost? I looked at the downpipe and it was also setup to delete this little flap, and the instructions show the same downpipe.

It has been modified for use with an external wastegate.

interesting, that was my first thought. but how the hell could it be possible that a Greddy kit would come with a screw up like that, and not to mention the dp is setup for it.

I believe the tdo5(I think) turbo was ment to be internally gated but they decided to welded shut and use a external for better performance reasons.an external wastegate is alot better.

okay crisis diverted. upon further inspection and for some weird reason the actual valve is further inside the turbine housing, and a good tug on the actuater arm showed that it moved.

I would open that to help the wastegate "waste" the exhaust more easily.Or at least some porting to promote flow.
