I have a spec stage 3 clutch in my sr and had a question about it. Does your car also stutter on 1st gear. I can understand why the clutch does this considering its a 6 puck disk and all but, is this supposed to go away or anything? I have about 800 miles on it and im not exactly babying the clutch. Thanks in advance.

I wil be puttign mine on in a couple of weeks, I'll let you know. Did you break it in properly? 450 miles of soft clutch engagement? If not, maybe that is a problem.

to tell you the truth i didn't properly break it in. it was too tempting. not driving my car for 3 months was hard. and the sr was too amazing.

no...Its been dragged about 10 times total (thats the main slippage points). Very few times have is relaly been slipped hard. In my experience Spec clutches just don't hold. I mean it BARELY slips and ONLY after I slip it a little bit then puta big load on it. Other than that its still fine... my brothers Spec Stage 1 was toasted after 4 months of use with his 250whp/250lb ft

well, I hope mine last longer than 7 months!! I'm going to make sure I break it in properly. It should be easy, though, because I also have to break in the engine.

I have the Spec Stage 2 Clutch and my first gear does chatter and stutter a little when I first start driving the car but after about 10 minutes it isn't as bad. I don't like the feel of this clutch.

I'm not trying to change the subject, but I gotta ask nnkfws333 what you don't like about the stage2? I got mine in around May, and I'm loving it!!! I know it probably won't hold up to turbocharged power, but I think it's great for na.

i have the same problem but you can get around it. i jsut rev it up higher that as the rpms come down some i let the pedal out. i think thats how i do it so it wont stutter. sometimes between shifts it kinda harsh but my throwout bearing needs to be replaced and greased better than when i put it in. i didnt break mine in right and it used to slip. i took it easy for a while and now i dont have any slipping issues. its been almost 5kmi on 8psi from a ka

Candela do you have the dampener in your car still? If you do GET IT OUT. My spec stage 3 started slipping really bad and i had to replace it. I never understood why it did that and never looked into it. I replaced it with a stock clutch and two weeks after breaking it in properly it started slipping. I looked up this and found it was the dampener. I just bought a new hardline from the dealer, ~$25, and used the stock rubber hose, ~20 form Advance auto if you need it. This stopped my slipping stock clutch.

Stage 2 here. No stutters at all, no dampener, nice smooth engagment both on and off. I've got about 1000 miles on it and while I didn't beat it, I didn't baby it either so far and its all good. Stock Flywheel if that matters, and this is on an SR.

the clutch damper box. its going from the hard line to the soft line with a line going from the box out and then back to the box if im correct. take it out. the clutch will feel better and bleeding if you have to will be a snap instead of the 2-3 hour horror stories you hear about. they make s.s lines exclusively for removing the box. it is a very cheap effective mod that many people have done.

The Spec stage 1 (250whp/250trq) was on my s13... I am changing it shortly. It has been messed ever since abotu 4 months of use on it. The stage 3 is on my friends s13 and he is a ***** driver if you know what I mean... anyhow his has slipped a bit after about 7k.

Both cars had proper break-ins and both cars have SS clutch lines (no dampner :ylsuper )...

Sorry I didn't get to this earlier, been busy. This clutch feels like stock and I wanted something with a little more grab to it. I hate the stutter in 1st...it feels like I don't know how to drive

I've got the Spec Stage 3 on my car as well. I've had it in since August 2003. It does chatter when engaging from a stop. That's just normal for a puck type clutch. I also have a weird resosance from about 2600-2000 RPM when costing down while in gear that Tictakman was talking about. It's really annoying.

clutch chatter is pretty normal on aftermarket performance clutches, in my experience. We have a Spec on my buddy's turbo Maxima and it's a piece of crap (I think). Slips all the time and it HAS been broken in properly. Not to mention chatter and annoying clutch feel during engagement. I'm not a big fan of them... I have one for my SR and won't be using it. I'm looking for a better alternative for a similar price right now...

You guys are telling horror stories about the Spec clutches. Are there any clutches that you guys recommend from actual experience? I'd like it streetable and be able to hold about 300+ft/lbs of torque.
