So I decided to put my stock air box back on for better mileage.

To my surprise my performance has increased, feels like 30 more torque.

So I punched it from 65 and speedometer literally SHOT past 80mph. And it was pushing strong past 100.

Didn't realize how much performance I sacrificed for a nice sound.

I just don't understand why mileage sucks *** with an intake. Honda Accords and Nissan 240s get a 3-4MPG improvement from intakes.

It's not the intakes fault, I assure you.

New OEM filter?

If you would have invested some time here reading old posts.....you would have known the drawbacks of aftermarket intakes and filters a long time ago.

Well, that is not OEM, but one would have to compare it to one to determine if it is adequate. Generally, OEM are better than Fram, and at $11 from Joe, hard to beat if changed annually.

Welcome back to the dark side! It's amazing that highly educated engineers spending millions of dollars designing an intake are better than me at Home Depot in the plumbing department!

Seriously, thanks for posting this - there are a lot of people that would be too proud to say that something they paid $$$ to do didn't work out .

Yes, if it is that apparent to one's buttometer, then it was probably sucking hot underhood air.

It's usually better for the car at least to be real rather than a kewl homey.

My advice, get rid of the fram ASAP. Fram is cheap shucks garbage and, after Fram oil filters almost destroyed my Dad's two Jeeps, I don;t put them on anything. NAPA and Car Quest oil/fuel/air filters are very high quality name-brand filters that meet or exceed OEM requirements. Or, just buy an Infiniti air filter. Sadly the quality of the Infiniti filters is decreasing as well.

I haven't noticed that in their air filters at all. The oil filters are another story.

True. My dealer sells the air filter for $12 here. Great deal! I wouldn't dare put any OEM filter on my car. I've seen them cut open and they are worse than FRAM honestly. I use NAPA ProSelect oil filters myself. As far as intake, I never had one, but when I purchased my car in had a K&N already installed. I loved the sound with the K&N filter in, but after doing the TB cleaning and noticing all of the dirt in the bottom of the filter housing, I threw it away.

Theres always dirt in my intake housing but before the filter. I also had a lot of dirt in that huge TB hose. I cleaned it out with brake/parts cleaner. Also the TB itself.

I think thats why my car has much more of an instant response now.

Dirt/debris/leaves/sand/etc on intake side of factory air filter panel is normal. There should be NO dirt or even dust in throttle body tube if filter is doing its job.

How much longer until they cheap out on the other filters as well? If they've cheaped out on oil filters it's only a matter of time until the others follow suit.

I've been using FRAM Oil Filters since last year. I use their Extended Guard 7500 OCI filters.

I hit 3000 miles in just about a month therefore don't get around to changing my oil until its 5-8000 miles overdue.

I have had no problems, I wish I could do my OC on time though.

But thanks JimbyJimb. I know FRAM filters suck and I will consider another brand on my next OC. Its just not as easy to find.

Does anyone know which Mobil 1 Oil Filter fits? I know someone figured it out on here.

Mobil filter is part # M-208. Pure-One filter is also very, very good and found anywhere. Other option, is to mail order half a dozen Amsoil EAO38 absolute Efficiency filters, great filter but expensive at $12-14 each.

I wonder if Baldwin makes a filter for the Q. Unlikely, but they make great filters.
