Hi, Grant.

On these new 205/55-16 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's that I just got for my wife's Acura, I am a bit confused ... I can't seem to find the DOT tire identifier for registering them for recalls!

These numbers are supposed to begin after the characters "DOT", but these tires do not seem to have these "DOT" letters on them anywhere that I can tell!

They were manufactured in Germany, so that might explain the fact that the US DOT info is not on the tire (but I thought it was illegal for tires to be sold in the US without a DOT identifier?)

Any hints on where to look, or what the number ought to be?

Thanks!

Z

It'll be near the bead, it usually has 3 sequences of letters/numbers like

DOT Hxxh B1c4 2403

or something...it should be on the "outside" of the tire, since its directional, it may be on only one side(the inside) but they should have them on both..-chet

With the exception of a few smuggled Japanese market tires, all the car tires sold here are branded/stamped with the DOT#, but it's only on one side of the casing, in the location where Chet said, near the bead.

Tires are made in soo many countries.. Brazil, Japan, Germany, France, USA, China, Korea.. and many more

I just cannot see anything beginning with the letters "DOT" on any of the tires!! Weird. I must be going blind. :(

The local tire installation guys also could not find the DOT identifier either - they pointed to a series of letters near the manufacturing date as the closest that they could think might be the identifier! These read as follows: "NDOF 2TDR" followed by a number that varies between the four tires and, I believe, represents the week of manufacture. On two tires, the number is "0304", on the third it is "0204" and on the last, it is "0604".

I will have to take a picture and show you all just what I mean!

Ah! A good link, thanks! The "ND" refers to "Deutsche Goodyear G.M.B.H", which makes sense since the tire says "Made in Germany". So, these letters in my previous post may well be it, although there is still no "DOT" anywhere near them!

That would be the series of numbers they need on the form. It does seem odd that they don't have DOT marked on it since the tire is only sold here in the U.S. market ?!? I'll have someone here check into that as well.

I'd appreciate that, Grant, thanks!

Although I do think I am on the right track now - SmithSR's link gave me the clue I needed!

Hi, Grant.

Any word back from your folks on this? I have now looked all over the tires thoroughly and there is no "DOT" characters that I can find. Although it does have letters that look like the ID.

On my other car, the "DOT" letters are very clear and the ID is also very obvious - they are separately "stamped" in, unlike the other characters that are molded in.

I hope this ones I just got are legit Goodyear made, and not some clone! :)
