you would be wise to stop doing that:

Today's engine management systems use a knock sensor to monitor combustion chamber pressure. When the knock sensor detects excessive pressure in a combustion chamber, it retards ignition timing, thus reducing or eliminating pre-ignition.

High output engines run with much hotter combustion chamber temperatures. Therefore, when low octane fuel is used (more volatile), the performance system cannot make the adjustments and pre-ignition can occur. If your owner's manual suggests using high-octane fuel, then use it or suffer the consequences of prolonged use of low octane fuel ... engine damage.

Dude, I could slap you. Pimp slap you for that matter.

Now, Jacko, Telcoman, C-Kwik, rn#####, and a slew of others including Admins, CEOs and Mods will incorporate how global warming in Nigeria causes oil companies to create high octane fuels with llama dung and George Bush's ability to fly a jet-plane allowed him to personally design a fuel source capable of giving the G .15 MPG improvement while using BP products in the state of Texas.

funny this comes up - a friend of mine actually ported his mower - that damn thing doubled power and you could now mow down hedges without a hickup...

Jacko:

Glad you liked that. I guess I was wrong though. It seems that this question has instead created a method for all the G owners to measure their "sticks" using lawn mowers for comparison.

Wait a second!!! I don't own a lawnmower. Where does that put me?

Do I have to measure my "stick" by my gardener's mower?
