The appropriate adjective is "grotesque".

Long ago, I had a 1968 beetle. 53 hp, 90 mph, shift shortener, camber compensator (a leaf spring at the rear which kept the swing axle from tucking under in corners), heavier front anti-roll bar, Michelin XAS tires, Hella driving lights on the front bumper. It was fun to drive and I could do 180 degree spins on a two-lane gravel road. In retrospect, I would have been better off with a Chevrolet Corvair Corsa (the 140 hp coupe).
