I don't know if this also applys to other states, but TX inspections uses that "dyno" thing to test for emissions. My car is lowered (1.8") but the people said the car will not clear when they lower my car onto the rollers. The place I go to has the thing installed into the ground (not the external one that you have to drive up onto) My question is does yours clear?

Hm. I don't live in Texas myself, but applied anywhere, they'd have quite a problem getting people on those. If your car is in stock form and lowered, then a LOT of cars wouldn't make it on that dyno-smog-o-meter or whatever. If yours is that one in the picture, then I don't know what to say. Its not your problem. They have to accomodate for you if they want to test you.

Nick.

KSee777 our shop here in PA has a emissions dyno , and they are right. We cannot dyno extemely lowered cars . But 1.8" is not much and i think you should try another place.

I live around chicago and about 3 months ago I had emission with the dyno thing, and eventhough my car is lowered 2.2" they did it. I don't know why they didn't do yours.

I'm dropped 3.5 inches, and it clears.

Actually, you must accomodate them if you want to get your car inspected and legally drive it on the road. That's kind of like me blaming the shop that tested my car because it failed and I have no emissions equipment on it.

small town inspections !!!! I drove my car from Canada to Texas and when I went through all 3 inspections required before I could get Texas plates & stickers not one time was emission verified !!! I was thinking my car would be very well inspected but it was not the case !! I live about 2 hours from Houston ... if you want to make the drive I can tell you where I got inspected

well, I live in Katy, and get inspected for fort bend.but for your Houston inspections...go to the dealer if you will pass the Harris County Sniffer and Dyno Specifications Act.

If Not, PM Me and I will give you a place to go...

Im in houston tx. This sounds cheasy but the local shell station is the best place. Their dyno machine works like this. You park your car on it and the back wheels raise to get on the cylinders that spin. Then a metal bar (in between them) lowers and lets the wheels sit on the cylinders. Then they run the test. Your car should be fine because you should still have 4 or 5 inches of clearence.

I haven't had my 240 inspected yet, but my civic has a 2" drop and it cleared. I might give that shell station thing a try though......

ok, I always take my car to Fromme Automotive in Cuero, Texas. It is about 90 miles southeast of San Antonio and 90 miles Southwest of Austin on 87 and 183. I have taken all my cars there ( I have had a total of 6) and have never even had one ON while the inspection was taking place. All they check is blinkers, headlights, windshield wipers and brake lights. Shoot me an e-mail if you want more info. They passed my car and my front blinker has a hole in it the size of a 50 cent piece.

the dyno is a roller they put your drive wheels on to test vehicle emissions under load. without dyno they would only be able to test idle or under no load by just revving. i had my car tested recently and it says there is a high speed (25 mph) and a low speed (15 mph) emission test.

He kinda mentioned this but they put a probe in the tail pipe to measure the emissions. A Dyno can also be used to measure HP and Torque.

i know what a dyno does... just that i heard from someone else it was a dyno looking device and not really a dyno
