Hi there, I'm kinda trying to combine a few older threads and revive the topic of painting over the Coupe's chrome mustache...

How exactly did you do it? I went to my local paint shop today and they said they would not do it. Said no matter what they did, in a few months the paint would start to crack off and peel with every rock chip. Said that chromed surfaces do not lend themselves to painting over, no matter how much prep work is done and that I would be sorry.

Any advice is welcome, as I'd love to paint it black to match my black Coupe.

Tell the paint shop to quit being stupid and sand the chrome off then paint. OR 1 up them and take them off and sand them yourself if you can, maybe even paint it yourself.

The chrome on the stache isnt very thick at all, part of the reason I chose to paint mine was that it already had chips in it!

Besides, if for some reason you get it done and it lokos horrible a few months from now...a new grill is only like 75 bucks.

Yeah, I took it to another shop yesterday and theysaid they would do it and there shouldn't be any problems. So I think I'll take care of that sometime real soon. They want $60 and I gotta take the grille out myself, but how hard can that be?

Not hard at all, remove the upper retaining push-pins and reach in as push out the grill (the mustache will come with the grill).

If your arms are large, 8 screws (3 under each side and 1 in each wheel well) will result in the front-end facia coming off (Watch out for Fog light connections if you do this).

BTW - the Burger comes off easy also.
