I am installing an audio system soon and applying sound dampener throughout the vehicle. Since I am already taking everything apart I think I am going to install footwell LED's and possibly cupholders as well. Can someone please fill me in on the difficulty of this install.

I have no experience with LED's! For the footwells should I be looking for a strip of LED's or bright individual bulbs. I have been looking online and on eBay and havent found exactly what I want. Are there kits that would provide the switch, wiring, and lights for both footwells? Where is the best place to buy them.

Also, I was wondering if I could get some input on which color to go with. I have an all black coupe and am having trouble deciding betweek Blue, Red, or Orange (as close to dash lights as possible).

I voted blue, just because my car is themed black/blue. So it all depends on your cars theme, if you are going black and red, do red but keep in mind the hazards of driving with certain colors. Doc mentioned some time ago that blue and orange were good choices not sure what he said about red.

The difficulty for footwells isn't too hard as long as you have the tools and some electrical knowledge. I can't comment on the cup holders but LBC does have a write-up on it so you can use that as reference.

For the footwells I used LED strips from http://www.oznium.com for the cup holders I would use individual LED's.

Hope that helped kind of

Are YOU installing the subs etc? If you can install a sub, you can do these leds without batting an eye...

The only thing about the front cupholders is the amount of stuff you have to take out to put them in... the whole center console, but if you are dynamatting, you probably should take it out anyways.

Heres ESP's DIY on it..http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=376423

what I mentioned previously is that blue, red, and amber lights have been shown through studies to cause less eye fatigue than other colors (yellow, white, pink, purple, etc)

it gets a bit technical regarding cone vs rod stimulation in your eyes over an extended period of time. But from my understanding, those three colors are all good choices (blue, red, amber)

I had blue in my last car and it was fine. Now, with my green and purple/UV setup, it really puts a strain on the eyes....especially the UV.

The install is super easy. As LBC said...if you can install a sub, you can do LEDs.

If you want to avoid attention, red is the way to go. That's why the military uses red in all beacons and illuminating lights. Blue has the longest wavelength and is most noticeable which is why most in-the-dark devices use blue to illuminate. All the other colors are just meh... I personally would go for red 'cause I'm a military freak!

you guys think that mixing different color lights is a good idea? i have amber map lights, and i'm going to get amber footwell lights, but i'm not sure if i should get amber cupholder lights as well. or a different color, like blue or green. what do you guys think?

mixing it should be fine, as long as you keep it kinda consistant. don't be getting 2 diff color cupholder lights, and a diff footwell light for each side or anything. esp did a good job of his interior lights which are mixedthere's a photo of it at the bottom of this link: http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=376423

^^ Thanks man!

Yeah, mixing is fine as long as your intent isn't to create another colour. For example, mixing blue and red LEDs will not give you purple. Well...it will right where the two meet, but it'll look more like a blue & red "splop" than anything else... I like the idea of having more than one solid colour in your interior. If you do amber in the footwells, DEFINITELY stick blue in the cupholders!

i know i know, i'm double posting. but, esp, do your footwell lights really shine as bright as they do in the picture?the reason i'm asking is because my friend got them in his civic si, and they're just not as bright as i was expecting them to be(like yours). but picture may be misleading...

They're that bright now that I've thrown in another 9" strip on each side. Pictures are very misleading since it's so easy to overexpose them (which is what I did in my shots...). One 19" per side would make it hella bright...but then again, not everyone wants to be that showy!

lol. yea that's true, it's not for everyone. i was thinking about getting a 10"-12" strip, and try to put it was far back as possible so that you can't see the tube, just the light emitting from it. have you ever been stopped by the police because of these lights?

The strips are flat enough that you don't have to get too creative to hide them. I haven't been stopped by the cops yet, but I'm also very quick to hit the switch if need be.

yea, the switch is there just for that reason haha.well my parents don't approve of me spending too much on my car. especially for unecessary things, like lights. (but what's really necessary right?) lol.
