Hi everyoneA week ago I installed some fog lights.A few days after i started noticing that my car doesn't start as easy and quick as it was before. I pretty sure that it is because the battery is not fully charged. Can fog lights consume energy even though they are off (they are off when I'm not driving at night and when the car is parked). The only thing that is on is a small LED on the switch (it just changes its color when i turn on the fog lights). So here is how i connected them:

So is there a way turned fog lights can consume energy (even though my wiring is done as described in the instruction)?

depends, do you have the red wire from the switch connected to a CONSTANT 12volt+ source?? If you answer yes to this, then my answer to your question is yes it could. Although LEDs do not draw much current, it is possible to drain your battery while sitting. I would recommend connecting that wire either to your parking lights, OR putting an add-a-fuse circuit to the cigarette lighter fuse so that your foglights are only able to be on while the parking lights are on, or while the car is on, that way the switch is not being powered while you are not in the car driving.

EDIT - I just noticed that there are 3 wires from the fog lamp and one is supposed to go to the park lamp??? Is this how yours is, and what happens when you disconnect that? Do the lamps no longer turn on?

Sorry, but the pic is a bit confusing.I just have 2 wires going from the fog lights. And the switch is connected directly to the constant + power supply.

Where do i connect it to the parking lights?

yea, that would be the best connection IMO, that is where I usually connect it, but you will need to use a relay to connect it to the parking light wire. What you will do is connect it like so . . .

85 parking light + input

86 ground

30 fused 12volt+ acc. (you could use the add a fuse to the cig. lighter as I stated previously)

87 would then be your new output to your switch

This will then solve your problem.

If you still need some help, or a lil more explanation, just LMK.

Actually yes, I need some more help %)

Do i need a relay the same as i have right now?

I guess the numbers are "ports" on the relay?

Where is a parking light wire?

YES, or you can get a BOSCH relay which is 5 prong, but both do the same thing, I prefer the BOSCH 5 prong relays

I guess the numbers are "ports" on the relay?

YES

Where is a parking light wire?

You can find the parking light wire in the drivers kick panel harness to the rear, it is a gray wire with 1 Silver dot. If you are unsure if you have the right wire or not, you can always use a multi meter to test the wire to make sure it is the correct wire.

One more question:

"85 parking light + input"What did u mean by "input"?

that is where you are going to connect the parking light wire that you tap into, and basically that is going to be your input of the circuit, the output of the circuit will be a new fused + which will be pin 87.

Here is a better explanation of how the relay works.

85 and 86 is your electro magnetic coil, positive and negative do not matter which side, as long as it is one positive and one negative, UNLESS you are using a relay harness which uses a diode across the coil which then it will matter which side gets power and which side gets ground, and 85 will usually be the side that would need to be positive, so this is why I always use 85 as power, and 86 as ground.

30 is your common, and whatever this wire is, ground or positive, this is what will be your final output on pin 87 and 87a

87a is your N/C pin or your "normally closed" pin, when the coil IS NOT energized, this pin will have continuity with pin 30. If pin 30 has a constant positive source to it, pin 87a will also have that same output to it when the coil of the relay is not energized, so make sure this wire is covered if not being used.

87 is your N/O pin or your "normally open" pin, when the coil IS energized, it will have continuity with pin 30, in your application, this is the pin you will utilize. This is your new positive output in your application which will go to your fog light switch.

THIS IS A PIC OF AN UNENERGIZED RELAY

AND THIS IS A PIC OF AN ENERGIZED RELAY

I hope that helps you out.

So the story is not over =)

I told my dad, he checked the car and said that its not the battery's fault. We checked the battery and it was completely charged. Today I went to my dealer and said that I have starting problems. They didn't ask me any questions and just said that it is a common problem. A part of a fuel pump is not working properly. So when a car is not used for even 30 mins then it takes a lot of time to pump fuel from the tank to the engine. So they are receiving new parts and then they are going to fix it. Btw they said that the car will always start it just might take some time to start.

But Ill definitely change the wiring for my fog lights. =)

So I guess we have another small problem withsome Versas (at least in Canada)

Would this set up work on a Versa S? (not SL)
