My 240 is supposed to have stock fog light in it. I have the switch on my headlight control and I have the wires from the switch to where the fog light spot it. Problem, I have no fog lights. They were never there, near as I can figure, they broke and the last owner didn't replace them.

Anyway, since I have the switch and the wiring, can I just buy some aftermarket lights and splice them into the current wiring? I went to a local shop that handles stuff like this and they said that that would not be possible. That the aftermarket lights draw too much power.

I don't want to put lights on my car if I can't integrate them into the existing switch and wiring. I don't like the idea of needing a toggle switch on the dash, when I have the switch right there. Anyone out there have any ideas? Anyone came across this?

How about specs? What are the specs for the existing lights? Volts, amps..that sort of thing. Maybe I can use the specs to purchase some aftermarket lights that will be within the specs. I don't know...I think I'm rambling at this point...anyway...any help would be appreciated!

you should be able to. aftermarket fog lights are very easy to wire up anyway but i understand you want to use the stock switch. the 240 foglights are wired so they only come on when the headlights are on. the switch just lets you turn them on or off when the lights are on. but theres a way to rewire them so they dont.

Wow..that looks like my car! Except for the fog lights of course.

Anyway...Do you know how to re-wire the switch so they will come on at any time and not just when the headlights are on?

i remember someone posted how to do it a while back because i was going to do it but never got around to doing it. i would search around for it. basically i think they are wired through the headlights so you would have to bypass the headlights somehow.

Almost any audio shop guy knows how to do it, in case you aren't good with wiring. Shouldn't cost much either for the side job...

You can use aftermarket fog lights with the stock switch and bypass the "fog lights only go on with the headlights" action with a simple wire trick. The factory foglight relay has a power wire that only flows current when your headlights are on - a multimeter will help find the right wire once you find the relay. All you have to do is remove that power wire from the relay and hook up a switched power wire (only on when the car is on) to it and bam - wire up any foglight to the factory plug under the bumper and you can turn them on with your factory switch whenever you want as long as the key is in the ignition.

Okay that was a quick description but if you really want deatil email me [email protected] and I'll see what I can do for ya.
