Okay, first, fog lights. Anyone know where i can find aftermarket fog lights that are custom fit to my 96 240sx base? I noticed on one of the sterio mags today a pair that replace the black pieces in the lowest part of the grille, i want some like those. Second, alarm systems. Any recomendations for a good alarm? I'm particularly interested in the ones that crutchfield have, i believe they're called crime guard, because crutchfield supplies a harness for our cars (i can get the alarm much cheaper off ebay, but that harness sounds darn handy). Third, has anyone put power locks in a car that doesnt have them? I'm getting some cheap solenoids to use to pop them, i need a switch though, any suggestions where to find a factory type switch? Other than junkyards (finding a 240 around here's..uh...well, i've seen 3 in a month, including mine) I may just run two tiny pushbuttons, one lock, one unlock, if i cant find a switch...Oh yeah, alarm people, how was it to install? What did you have to dismantle? The wiring sounds fun, but i dont have any desire to pull my entire dash out to run wire.thanks!ast

just go to a stereo shop and have them install an alarm with power locks.... it will cost you about $170 all together for both... and it will just fine

heh...if only there were decent sterio shops around here. One wants 95 for the alarm (a nice one, sounds reasonable) and close to 300 for the alarm installed. I dont think so...I've got to do it myself...anyway, it keeps me busy :)ast

Stereo shops just put in any power locks? Does the work look nice? Where do they mount the switches in the car?

Just do what i'm doing, forget locks, and handles for that matter....shave it all, push a button to open your doors....and what kinda alarm did you get for 170? Mine is 700 CAN so that's still over 400 US, ah well, i wanted a pager with it.....but power locks isn't that hard a mod, i've seen a ton of people do it....

dont try to install the alarm yourself unless you know what youre doing... get one of those alarms that honks the horn randomly... those are the only alarms actually proven to draw attention. power door locks, yeah they can be installed w/ the alarm for not that much. and normally there is no mounting of a switch on the interior... you just have to use the alarm remote to open the door locks from the outside n whatever.

yea but if you were the one jacking a stereo or even trying to steal the car and all of a sudden this alarm went off..dont tell me you would just sit there and continue going on with what your trying to acomplish. (unless your some professional.)

it was 40 bucks..i couldnt turn it down. Its better than having nothing and it will be as good as any other alarm. It has Windows , door locks , the lcd pager (alerts you when you car is being touched or hit etc) Remote start and some other **** i cant think of right now. Im pretty sure this alarm is stolen..its not like it retails for 40 bucks..lol

I installed a Crime Guard 745i3 in my S13, the alarm itself was about $230 including the extra relay that you'll need to set up the power doorlock interface.

I'm quite happy with it, although I have yet to actually put in the door lock system.

I don't know how different S14s are, but you don't have to take much of the interior apart. Just the driver's side panels and steering column to get to some of the wires. And if S14s don't have a trunk ajar light on the dash either, you're going to have to run a wire all the way to the trunk. That's kind of a pain.

Then again, I'm a car electronics newbie. =) But I would recommend the Crime Guard systems. The harness is extremely helpful.
