I noticed discoloration in the driver's side fog light lens today and a closer look showed a rock chip in the lens. Water has been seeping into the body for a while now and has caused some of the reflective coating (about 1/3 of the surface) to peel away.

Does anyone have a home remedy to reapply a reflective coating? A couple of things come to mind like high temp chrome spray paint (?) or bonding in some heavy duty tinfoil. Would it be cost effective to have the reflective plate rechromed at a plating shop? I don't know if any of these grand ideas would work but would like to hear any suggestions or personal experiences. I've seen many for sale on our parts board and ebay but would rather save my $$$ if there is a DIY available.

Repair is futile if you want as new performance.

Buy new from Joe, and armor well because they will be impacted.

By armor do you mean the plastic stick-on sheet? You're right. At $200 a pop new I need to do something because it's just a matter of time before it happens again. Do you see this kind of leakage and peeling in a lot of fog light assemblies?

Mine haven't peeled, but I replaced them on one G50 with Sylvania Xenarc X1010.

I will post in the Q45 Forum.

I replaced the other fog on the other G50 with one from Joe.

I armored with the 80 mil 3M laser cut stuff from http://www.stongard.com . They have changed their website, so now they don't show the old kits, so you have to call.

The Xenarc are actually HID low beams. I'll post them up soon.

It's a project you would love.

As am I. I would love a write up to convert my '99 to full HID. I have Silverstars in the HB and FOG now, but nothing beats that HID look.

But you have HID low beams already if it's a 99 or later.

Kind of like carrying a double load to Newcastle.

Well, no way I know of doin the high beam without grafting on a projector.

HID for fogs make no sense as lower frequency penetrates fog better. Therefore, you want the color temperature towards the redder end of the spectrum. Why all fogs were yellow with rallyists.

That's for paint protection.

http://www.stongard.com headlight armor is 80 mil. All other vendors I have seen are 40 mil.

The initial cut is the first trick, the installation the next.
