Glass is harder and resists scratching a little better than lexan, but both need armoring.audtatious wrote: I'm about to install my 3rd set in the Maxima. Why they changed over to glass I will never understand.
I'll be installing a 1/4" lexan cover to keep it from happening again.
One can use Barkeeper's Friend or Bon Ami on glass.audtatious wrote:I'd rather deal with polishing Lexan to clear off rock marks than replacing $160 lights It only takes me a half hour to cut and shape new covers for the fogs so it's all good anyway.
From what others and I have seen with the glass lenses, simply putting 3M on them won't stop them from eventually cracking. The H3 bulbs heat the glass up and sudden/repetative cooling via water will cause them to crack (at least with the '02-03 Maxima fogs). This process is sped up if you have upgraded your bulbs for higher output. Once cracked, it is far easier for road rocks to actually break a piece off.
The proximity of the bulb (heat source) and the glass could play a part in that, as the Q bulbs seem to sit "far back".maxnix wrote:... Never have seen that problem on an Infiniti with H3 bulbs.
Okay... wheres the lexan link??? If it a perfect fit or do i have to do some work to it to make it fit. Platic or glass.. i kinda dont care as long as the price is right... Really, i stay in houston, rocks fly everywhere.!!!! so i dont think glass is goot, although it may look better.......audtatious wrote:Or you can get custom. That is correct. Call Joe for the lamp.Romeo5k wrote: i went to ur link Maxnix...(invisiblemask.com) seems as if they sell the films or something.. they dont sell the whole fog assembly itself.
Never had an armored one brak on me. And the only thing that wars is the armor. Much less expensive to replace.Rex wrote:I look at the them as "wear parts" and simply acknowledge they will need to be repalced eventually.
I'm in process of making my own. I have a sheet of 1/4" lexan sitting in my garage (minus two holes where I cut my covers out). I have some sanding left to do at this point. I don't think any aftermarket companies make anything like it.Romeo5k wrote:

The Maxima fogs def get hot to the touch and I have seen steam come from them when they get wet. At least they have been that way with the PIAA Ion Crystal H3 bulbs (55w-85w).maxnix wrote:Never have seen that problem on an Infiniti with H3 bulbs.
Wiring and lamp unit designed for 55W H3.audtatious wrote:The Maxima fogs def get hot to the touch and I have seen steam come from them when they get wet. At least they have been that way with the PIAA Ion Crystal H3 bulbs (55w-85w).
55w-85w = 55w bulb with brightness of a 85w bulb. Now, upgrading to a higher wattage bulb WILL require wiring changes.maxnix wrote:Wiring and lamp unit designed for 55W H3.
Hotter bulb with greater current draw may require heavier gauge wire, but still not cure overheating the glass lens.
Going to be even hotter if sealed behind lexan. If not, dirt will coat the lens. Why I discontinued using the rigid lexan headlight protectors.
Questions.. how does this look on the G50.. it seems like the G50 may ned some cutting in order to put that light inside of the Q. Next.. how much money does it cost to do such a thing...And finally if i like it and its not that time consuming and not that much money into it... would u recreate it for me for a small fee??audtatious wrote:
