Earlier this year, I decided I needed to fill the gaping holes in the bottom of my bumper with fog-lights. The OEM ones were missing, but, by sticking my hand through the holes, I was able to find the existing wiring on the passenger side. The driver's side was more tricky, and it was cold, and my hand was bleeding, so I said, "Screw it; it's probably in there somewhere."
I ordered replacement fogs last week, and they arrived today. Again, on the passenger side, I found the yellow plug that will fit into that light. On the driver's side, I was able to find a wire that curved down and around. Unsure as to where it led, I followed it, blindly, with my fingers, and it came out of whatever socket it was plugged into easily. The plug at the end of the cable wasn't at all like the plug for the passenger-side fog; it was black and square, instead of yellow and oblongish. This made me nervous.
Fearing that I'd just disconnected something vital to the operation of the car, I opened the door and switched on the lights, but everything still worked. Reaching back up along the freshly-unplugged wire, I found what feels to be two broken wire strands.
My theory is that I've found the power line for the fog lights, that I've unplugged it and so, even if I connected the passenger side light it won't light up. Further, the broken wires are the remains of the connection to the driver's side fog light.
Is my theory correct? If so, where the heck is that socket? Also, what should I do about the missing cable?
