fog light indicator always on

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I just got an EX35 (2012) here in Canada. The car has just 80k km on it and drives nicely. However, I noticed that the fog light indicator in the dashboard is always on when in Drive or Reverse. The fog light switch itself is set to "off" and the general light switch in the "auto" position.
The indicator light is off when the normal headlight is on.

It seems the fog lights are also used as DRL. Is that be the reason the fog light indicator is on? I haven't come across a car so far where the DRL have a light indicator in the dashboard...
How is it for others with DRL?

According to the CAN communication chart (LAN-26 here: https://www.nicoclub.com/service-manual ... %2Flan.pdf) the Meter (and IPDM) get the Fog Request signal from the BCM, but there's no provision for the BCM to tell either unit whether the fogs are lit because of fog or daylight. The Meter simply turns the indicator on whenever the fog request is active. So yes, it's just designed that way and it's working correctly.
