I have been looking to replace my OEM fog light bulbs. I don't like the yellow glow of halogens and am not concerned with the actual function of my fogs, so I ordered some LED bulbs (that supposedly aren't very bright). I just want the color to match my headlights. I tried a couple different halogens first and as I was switching bulbs I noticed one of the housings appears to have some rust in it and the lens is starting to get foggy.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to clean it? I was thinking of removing it and trying to clean what I can through the hole the bulb sticks through. I'm assuming I shouldn't use anything abrasive or run I'll the risk of damaging the reflective part? Any better strategies out there? Also, how would I go about preventing it from getting dirty again? I'm assuming it isn't fully sealed and needs silicone? ....if so, how do I do that??

And I don't even know if I know how to remove my fog lights. I'm thinking you remove the black plastic cover on the bottom of the car, then remove the black plastic housing piece, then remove the bulb from the housing, then unscrew the housing?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Ya ... I still need help with this. The LED fogs sucked and were WAYYYY too dim. I knew they would be dim, but these things were ridiculous. So, I did the HID conversion and during the install I figured out why one of my fog light housings is getting so dirty.

I hit a pothole a while back (actually I just hit another one last Friday and bent a f'ing rim!!!!) and it dislodged my fog light bulb from the housing. And then it proceeded to melt through the plastic cover beneath the car, so when I got out of the car the bulb was hanging down. I put it back in and thought the problem was solved.

When I was doing the fog light conversion I noticed the rim around the housing were the bulb fits/rotates into is chipped. The bulb is held in place OK, but you can see light around the edge so the seal isn't perfect. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can seal it in there? Could I clean the surrounding area and just use tape to seal it in there better? I keep getting water and dirt in the housing and the lens is foggy. Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Your best luck is to just improvise. Try different techniques. Thats what I did when my headlights fogged up on my old car. I went through tape, hot glue, whatever but it still fogged up. At least its just your fog light. Just order another pair if all else fails.

Thanks Mike! I tried cleaning and taping, no luck. It rained the other day I ended up with a half inch of water in the housing. I have no idea how it's getting in there.... so I just ordered a new one.
