My receiver in the car seems to be malfunctioning. It seems to happen the most after I drive and I get out to lock the doors. The fob is in my pocket...as its been since I got the car...I press the door button and the fob lock button and nothing happens. Changed the batteries and used the backup fob with new batteries with the same result. Any ideas? Also, where in the car is the receiver? I have so many modifications I want to know where the service guys are going to be pulling up if I have to take it in.

Could be the BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE).

^^What he said.

The Body Control Module controls the functions for the key fob. I have a customer whose key fob lost communication with the car. We tested the key fob and it was functional, then we tried programming several other remotes to the car and it wouldn't work. We hooked our Snap-on Verus up to the car, and we could enter into the BCM and operate most of its functions (honk the horn and whatnot), but we were unsuccessful at getting the key fob to communicate with the car. This left us stuck wondering if the BCM was malfunctioning because we couldn't get it to communicate with the key fob or if it was something else...

If you happen to get your issue diagnosed by the Infiniti dealership, please update this thread with what they found out because I'm curious too. Good luck.

Thanks, Ill look into the bcm, but consider this, this ONLY ONLY ONLY happens AFTER a drive and I try to lock the door when I get out. And this started after I took it to the dealer for something else. I know they cleared the check engine light I had on after I disconnected the battery (they tried to charge me $135 diagnostic fee for that, I told them they could go do something to themselves). I'm going to see if a harness is loose, and also see if this happens simply after starting the engine, if not ill take it in...to a different dealer.

Ok, consider this, while you didn't mention how many miles are on your vehicle, I'd venture that it's somewhere near 100K. Did you know the life expectancies for items like the power steering pump, electronic engine control module, air conditioning compressor, alternator and starter is roughly 80,000 to 100,000 miles? Your BCM was probably on it's way out, and the recent work just tipped it over the edge.

Found the problem. The touchscreen I put in was holding up the electrical system during its shutdown process. I forgot I made a change to the shutdown sequence and timing the night before I took it to the dealer. I don't understand why current draw would prevent outside communication with the fob, but at least I found it. So I either need to change my shutdown timing sequence, or just wait for a complete shutdown before attempting to lock.

^^I'm glad you were able to diagnose your issue successfully.

I spoke with Infiniti and multiple locksmiths that we work with, and every single person I talked to said that they've never heard of any Infiniti's with key fob communication issues that were directly related to internal Infiniti parts. I guess our cars are pretty rock solid when it comes to the key fob which is good to know.
