folks,

i've replaced both FOB's with new battery and i'm still having issue locking/unlocking the car from 20 feet away. i actually tried multiples NEW batteries and it still didn't fix the issue. Anyone have any idea what to try next?

Is there a remote module within the car that's dying/blocking the communication between the FOB and the car?

Yes, I believe there is a receiver in the car. Not sure where exactly it's located but my guess would be behind the dash under the radio...but could also be under the steering wheel.

Before you do that, just verify it isnt your cell phone, or any other electronic equipment you have on you, or your always around, or anything you may have in the car. I've had that problem.

I would expect electronic equipment to be more of a problem for the keyless start and entry button on the door than remote entry, but it's certainly worth looking into environmental factors. In addition to that, when is the last time you changed your car's battery? It could be getting weak. Our cars do strange things when they get weak, sometimes our vehicles act up even when batteries still test good, so if it's near or over 3 years old, I'd look into replacing it before I wasted too much time on anything else. Could also be a bad ground connection at the battery, the receiver, or in between those two components.

ETA: You have had this remote work at further distances with this vehicle in the past, correct? If not, I should also point out that the remote range on my vehicle has always (since I bought it in 09) seemed incredibly short compared to every other remote entry vehicle I have driven.

i haven't changed the car battery since i bought it so that battery is at least 6 years old. I really don't want to change it because it's still performing really well. We had some really cold days here in North East and the cart started fine.

Anyone have a picture or reference material to this infamous Receiver? I would like to see if it's even worth the hassle.

I do have 2 phones with me (work and personal) in the pocket and the keys are in my jacket when i try to lock/unlock my car. But i also took them keys out and press it, even put them under my chin, using my head/brain as signal extender and still didn't work. It's pretty embarrassing that you have to walk up to the friking car to unlock/lock it. Even at that range, sometimes it still didn't even work. i had to press the button by the door handle. :spitout: :rotflmao Hahaha, I'd like to be around and see you do this; especially knowing the intention behind it.

Perspective my friend. Not trying to gloss over your issues with the remote entry system, but I actually usually appreciate the range on all my Nissans. I can lock/unlock the vehicles from the house and roll the windows down from a good distance away. In my Benz and Jaguar experience the fob is useless, unless you are very close, damn near stabbing the car with the fob.

EDIT: Whoa!! Mind blown right now. I went out to prove for myself that the chin method works. Guess where my key fob is gonna be every time I approach my car? Now I just have to find a distinguished way to pull this off.

Haha, for the love of Nicoclub, I'll record it next time an opportunity presents itself. I hope I don't get to microwave my noggin in the process.

Sorry, you are out of luck. There is simply no way to pull this off looking distinguished. So many times I forget to lock the doors, reach 100ft or so away and remember, turn around and have to do this. You better bet I look around to make sure nobody is watching me...which is why I never do this during the day. Having a fob stuck to the underside of your jaw with your mouth open smh lol...picture that distinguished  lol.

LOL - i thought this is pretty common knowledge.

how can a friking antenna go bad when it's inside protected from all type of craps. even when i'm next to the friking door, pressing the button on the handle, i have to do it twice. worst part is, the friking part (if correct) is over 150 bucks. son of a....!!!

intelligent-key-control-unit-t572034.html

guys - those who responded to the thread above, can you comment on whether or not replacing this intelligent key control unit fixed your issues of not being able to unlock/lock your car whether pressing the keys on the fob or standing right next to the door and pressing the button on the car handle.

also is it because the water is leaking in which is why this module is going kaput? Thanks

A few questions:

1. What us the year and miles of the cars in question?

2. Do any of the doors unlock when the fob or door button is pressed?

3. Can you use the key portion of the fob to open and close all doors?

If only the drivers door is at issue it could be a door lock actatuator problem. I have some kind of short in mine that causes it to malfunction. Right now it works. 2 months ago it didnt. Changing the battery didn't help the problem.

1. What us the year and miles of the cars in question? --- 06 with over 130k - not sure if the mileage matters but maybe year.

2. Do any of the doors unlock when the fob or door button is pressed? --- if and when the receiver received the signal, all doors will unlock or lock.

3. Can you use the key portion of the fob to open and close all doors? --- i'm sure it works as the actuator is not the problem. it's the receiver that is not receiving the signal to tell the actuator to open the door.

On a flip side, i found the 10A fuse for the Intelligent unit and yanked it out. It's not broken but i swapped it with one of its neighbor. The car is responding better now but the range is still an issue.

i'm surprise folks aren't having this issue with their car. must be my luck only
