I have the 17x9 +20 FN-01s and 235/40 tires. I am currently running the stock ride height and removed the well liners but did not have to roll the fenders, the only clearance issue I've had is a few times when I've hit a very large bump when at/near full steering lock I've heard some slight rubbing somewhere inside the wheel well. I'm also very confused on this because of conflicting research. With this setup (17x9 +20) what is the "problem" dimension, i.e. the one prone to causing fitment issues, width? diameter? What is a more "normal" size for this wheel, something like a 245/40?

Tire options for 245/40:I guess I need all-season tires unfortunately, mostly just because they will see temps that are probably too cold for summer rubber, I don't drive the car is snow/ice if I can do anything at all to avoid it.Tread life doesn’t really concern me, but I’d prefer to get at least 20k out of them running -2° camber.

Kumho Ecsta ASX (what I’m running now, currently at 25k and they are getting bald except for the deepest tread) Toyo Proxes 4Falken Ziex ZE-912

Any others?

yup. nothing a sledge hammer can't fix.

I dont understand your question. Youre tires are rubbing, so you want to replace them with bigger ones?

-2 deg of camber isn't that bad for daily driving, just make sure your toe is good.yeah camber causes premature wear, but toe will eat your tires like no tomorrow.

Ya, that OP is pretty confusing, I rambled a bit. I was wondering with this type of setup if it was the width of the tire that is supposed to be the issue (side of tire rubbing) or the diameter (top of tire hitting). Also, I was confused if the 245+ tires would fit and clear the coil and all, but did find an earlier thread where 255s were recommended for these wheels, so I guess they'd be all right.

As for the rubbing, it's happened like twice in as many years, so it's not something I'm worried about at current, but I'll have to keep an eye/ear on the new tires.

The main question was really just for comments on my tire selections, or other options. The only real constraints are that the tires will be driven in cold (down to 20°F, give or take), and I'd like to keep it under $600 or so. It seems like 245/40 is a less common size than say 245/45, and many of the tires I'm familiar with are not available.

You can drive summer tires in the winter. I've had multiple reputable tire shops tell me they are fine. I have UHPS BFGoodrich G-Force Sports that I drive all winter, and have autocrossed with in cold weather. The real question is do you have snow/ice? Ultra High Perf. Summer tires are good because they usually have fat shoulders for handling, but still have good central tread. Also you will get about 20K miles on them.Look at the Yokohama S. Drive tire. They are actually one of the cheaper UHPS tires on tirerack.com but are always right at the top of the survey comparisons, and tirerack always recommends them. $116 a piece for 245/40R17 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...ce=38

i would recomend you stick with a 235/ 40and look into the falken FK452 they should be priced near the proxes 4's

possibly try http://www.edgeracing.com they have reasonable pricing and good service, ive dealt with them a few times

the only reason why you may hear a scrub is because your body-roll due to stock suspension....
