I got a simple virus today and backed up all my newer files on my 2nd hard drive which had 840 some odd gigs of stuff on it. About 50 gigs of music , All of the top gear episodes, family photos and videos, movies, veryy rare older software, games asdlhksdaflhsadfhkl... my blue prints, music work and basically my life. So i went to format and repartition my c drive and install windows again yayyyy easy fix. When i was deleting the old partition my phone rang and somehow it went to the drive d partition where i had my past 9 months of data saved which was about 350 gigs and kapooot i formatted the entire partition which had my life on it.Watch out Nala there is a new idiot in town!!!!! my s*** wasnt even pirated since i hijack my friends computers and take their material whenever i can. all the naked photos of their x girlfriends and s*** is gone too. 63 gigz of p0rn gone too = [

foot note i am a retard/ super tard/ nala is smarter than me/i actually felt my heart fall into my gut and felt like puking, no girl or death of family or friends had made me feel like that fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk mmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyy lllllllliiiiiiiiiiffffffffffffeeeeeeeeeee.

thank god i had parts of everything except the past 9 months saved on various computers but itll be a b**** to organise and make things all good again like before as in yesterday that i was up till 5 working on my comp.

done venting thank you.

DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE TO THAT COMPUTER!!!!!!

Formatting does not "delete" any files. It marks that space as unused so it can be written over. All of that can easily be recovered. If you write over it, it becomes MUCH more difficult. You could wipe my entire hard drive if you wanted, and I'd get it back just as quickly.

No, you'll need a file recovery program. As long as you don't write anything else over the d partition, you should be ok. Most of the data recovery software actually costs money. If it's important enough, you can buy it. I know it is also possible to pirate a large number of different programs that will work. However, I cannot condone going that route.

Check this out for one source of info. If you google data recovery review / data recovery software you should get a bunch of information. Should definitely get you started.

Get a program called Active Partition Recovery. I used it before I went into the backbone side of networking.

Never used APR, but I've used plenty of others enough to know that it works (it being the method). If these guys say it's good, roll with it. Let us know if you are successful in recovering everything. Glad we could help.

Next time use two hards drives and do weekly backups. Store the other weekly used hard drive somewhere safe.

I think I have an idea as I have about of 300 GB of stuff floating across 4 computers. I need to get a big hard drive to keep it all on instead on computers. Then down the line another to back up that hard drive.

But as I always say be careful what you post online because you don't know what creeps are watching: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/igeneration/f ... ntent/4808

Well I have and idea but the average person may not.

When the internet breaks, you don't want to end up like Stan's dad in that Southpark episode!

RAID is your friend.
And yeah...that recovery program should have worked.
I've used a similar program to recover files after I deleted them from the recycling bin. Some of the data was a little corrupted but I got most of it back.
