i have my $600 burberry prescription glasses for about 3 years. although i took really good care of it i still can't avoid the scratches. so last night my dumb *ss thought i should clean them so i soak my glasses in a container with eye glasses cleaning solution mixed with water, thinking letting it soak over night will not take away the scratches but at least have a deep clean. f*cking this morning there are this weird spots on my left lens, i tried almost everything and i can't get them off. i don't know if my crappy phone camera will pick it up on pic, i'll try.

i'd hate to pay 300 to get the lenses remove. the weird spots is on the surface of the of the outside lens. i'm thinking to buff that off idk..i'm a dumb *ss fml

Well the glasses are fine, the lenses (might) need replacement. And they won't charge you $300 to remove them, they will charge you $300 for their replacement. Also I am guessing you don't have any eye coverage?

They might have had some sort of film or coating on them to protect from scratches that the solution reacted with.. that's my only guess. Otherwise I dont know why that'd happen.

Glasses lenses are made with a type of plastic that isn't meant to be soaked in chemicals like that, some kind of carbon-plastic (can't remember the name).

Polycarbonite.

Kachow...

Sucks...I've been there. Cept with me I left one lens covered in brake fluid overnight. They were transitions and totally f***ed them up. Walked around with one side a pale green and the other side dark brown for a week.

I'm terrible on my glasses...Titanium breaks at the seems requiring a $75 dollar laser welder repair. SS bends and breaks eventually. Rimless ones pop out. Anti-scratch coatings last a couple months if that. Etc.The kicker is I can't wear contacts because I don't produce tears normally.

Also...wet-sanding them will change the prescription. I tried it and a multitude of buffing compounds on a crappy old pair of glassed with horrible results. Even a quarter of a millimeter too deep will f*** up the prescription.

Holy f***ing quintuple post batman...damn formus.

If you look carefully at the rubbing compound directions and indications, it will say quite clearly NOT to use that stuff on Polycarbonate. SO don't do this OP.

Thanks scorched.

Talk to Rex. IIRC he is an eye glass technician. He may be able to help you out.

Do you have lenses with that special coating for scratched corneas? I can't think of how your lenses would cost that much.

frames are generally cheap, lenses are f***ing expensive, especially when you have no coverage.

I know, I've worn glasses since I was 12 lol. My current glasses w/lenses were like $300 (I think the lenses were around 1/3 of that). If they were the special lenses I understand though cause they are ridiculously priced.

Yep, I hate the "$99 deal". Always ends up closer to $300...
