fmic ?

Wondering if anybody has any expierience useing the off brand intercoolers from ebay. How do the compare to the high priced HKS and others. My HP goal is around 220 hp to the wheel. with sr20det. Also my front bumper opening is about 28"x7" dos it pay to have a fmic bigger than the opening since the air wont flow through that part of the core?

@ 220 you can probably still get away w/ smic & still be pretty efficient.

the only problem w/ a lot of the "off brand" ebay intercoolers are that they are super large, which creates a lil more lag since the turbo has to fill up more air space. Other than that, basically most ppl I've seen who run ebay fmic have no complaints (a few supra guys @ dyno days run them, works great, and they are going 600+whp).

220whp on a smic is still doable. If you look for the ARC smic you can do 12-14psi all day on that and unless it's way hot outside, it won't heat soak at 14psi. Make sure you get the one for the SR though, it's thicker than the one they made for the CA.

My friend bought me a fmic kit from ebay with the cheap "greddy style" bov to put on my vert, but the ic was massive. there was no way I could fit it with the bumper beam in place. So he just used it on his car because he has the aggressive origin kit. It looks great, but we had to weld on the bov adaptor and the vacuum line port by the trottle body. You will probably have trouble with the alignment of the ic pipes. If you want true fit, you're better off going with hks, greddy, brands. But if you're on a budget, you can make the ebay ones work. I'm running a SS autochrome ebay special intercooler and have no complaints. I'm putting down ~250 whp and have no problems and we pressure tested it and nothing leaks on it. The fitment wasn't the best but we were able to get it to work without too much trouble. Also, with the stock T25 on the car, I didn't really feel too much difference in the lag going from the SMIC to the FMIC.
