well im re doing my setup so that i can get the best gain once i get the aem in and tune it.

so as of now i have a crappy 32x6x2.5 fmic and 2" cold pipe.

im changing the cold pipe to 2.5" to match my hot pipes, and im changing the fmic.

i want to go with a 35x11.5 x 4 intercooler. but i think it may be to big for right now.

my turbo is a 62-1 t4, and im going to run 10psi before the aem and 15psi after i install it. so do you think im just going to do more harm with a intercooler so big?

I've been into Turbo cars for 8 years (mostly DSM's and now my KA-T) and I've never heard of the intercooler being too big. Everything is dependent on your hot and cold pipes. I think you should be fine with the one you were looking at but that's just my $.02. Goodluck either way!

what i mean is too big in the sense that the pressure drop would be to great for the boost level im running, but then again this turbo does flow, its a 62lb/min wheel. I'm thinking im gona loss all low end tho.

my frined has a sti with a 35r, he runs a 3.5" thing fmic and doesnt make good power untill 5000rpms. so im kinda iffy.

That's mostly dependent on what size AR housing your running. The bigger the # the more top-end you'll have but will be sacrificing low. Don't forget these aren't baby turbo's we're talking. Right now with my Turbonetics top-mount T4 I don't hit full spool till about 3800rpm. The Precision FMIC i'm running is tiny compared to what you're thinking of running. The pressure drop is directly proportional to the efficiency of the FMIC. Hence the different core types you have. In my opinion the FMIC is just as important as picking the right turbo for your setup. Can you hit XXX hp with an ebay? Yes!, but are possibly making the turbo/motor work harder to get there than it has to..most likely. Like I said this is all my opinion. Others feel free to chime in.

When talking intercoolers, typically you name them by the core size. Your not fitting a 32 inch core FMIC on your 240 i can tell you that much hehe. The 4 inch core is pretty sweet though. You prly have a 24 inch or so core now. Measure from inner most weld to weld, that will tell you what size it is.

The thing is, if your not running high boost where heat soak is an issue, you dont need a mammoth IC system. There will be more lag, and no benefits. For 10-15 a 24x12x3 core is more than enough, and fits on a 240 well.

That compressor wheel on your turbo is just barely waking up at 15 psi, and is in no way over heating the air. You dont really need a big IC for your setup/goals.

As far as the ebay IC goes, your only losing at max prly 2 psi if your core is crap. Technically your working your turbo harder than it needs to, but your talking a negligible difference in shaft rpm. Turbos are after all made to spin..

You'll get some pressure drop with all fmic's...so if whp is the goal, then the bigger the better is always the best option. Have the wastegate vac cource come from the intake mani, that way the pressure loss is made up by the turbo actually putting out 3-4 more psi...go big or just don't.

i think ill leave the 4" cores for supras, im going to go with a 24" core 3" thick and about 11-12" high, that should be enough.

i understand what your saying about the pressure drop, i just want some thing efficent, i do want to get a T04R later after i build my bottom end and run 25psi. but i guess then ill change the setup.

of all the ebay intercooler anyone know a decent brand? i seen the ebay fmic go form $60 - $400, is more expensive always better?

thanks for the info
