Has anyone here successfully trim/cut their S13 USDM bumper support to fit their FMIC i.e. Blitz LM?

If a JDM bumper support is required, where do we buy one?

I have the JDM support and still had to trim with the Blitz LM. Just take a cutting wheel to it.

i know you probably heard this and thought "what a tight ***" but removing the bumper support is a BAD BAD idea

in an accident your front end will crumple like paper...think 15mph and your hood is in your face...

dont belive me? check out my cardomain

mind this was less then 15 mph too...into the back of an integra...gravel+no abs=slide...

i really don't like driving around without a bumper support, and your picture only frightens me more.

Will a trimmed USDM support work?

Or does it have to be a trimmed JDM support?

I would just get rid of it and when following another car just stay behind at a good braking distance. I think people that tend to rear end other people and mess up their front end are driving too fast or not paying attention to the road and vehicles around them. With it off you just have to drive extra careful.

you NEED a front bumper support. end of story. a couple of my friends are still going to go without one, they are completely dumbasses. i told them it will crumble if in an accident.... they dont believe me.............. now i have a pic to show them

it takes about 15 minutes to cut the front bumper. usdm OR jdm. do it, or you'll be sorry.

Or you can weld your own reinforcement... just tie in the two frame rails and it will have the same effect. Frankly the car is gonna crush no matter what in anything above 10 mph. The bumper and bumper support are rated to 5 mph in crash testing. The only downside to not running on is that the impact if offset now can be absorbed only by one side of the chassis. Which is why you need to tie in the two lower frame rails together.

Front end collision is enough to total 90% of the 240's out there. Parts are so expensive for our cars and/or values so low that it doesn't take much.

Sad but true. I have mine off, i'd like to put it back in.. but the truth is that you are in big trouble over 10mph. bumper or no. I just like the idea of being able to bump into say.. a parking meter and not have it cost me a 1k$ fmic core.

doesn't the bumper support still fit if you just trim it so the intercooler can sit in there? at least to me it looks like it will, i'm in the middle of my swap right now, in fact i already took off the bumper support and was about to mount the core and trim accordingly when it got dark. its a greddy vslp btw

You could cut out the back side of the support and mount the intercooler kinda at an angle, but you'd risk rubbing on the support if you don't put some foam or something between the IC and support.

10mph crash is gonna destroy an aluminum FMIC... a rock or a nail could destroy an aluminum FMIC. It's just part of it, and your insurance should cover things like that.

eh, if you have the right insurance...the truth is alot of insurance companies wont wanna cover performance parts...like mine

so what sucks is that i have a salvage title since i crashed my car...you shouldnt be worried about the 1k it would cost you to replace your intercooler (overestimate if u ask me) but you shoudl be worried about the 100k it would cost to re-build your face when you crash into a pole and the motor comes flying through your dash and into your head

Cutting the bumper is very easy, all you have to do is look on the back side of the bumper core, there will be a 1 1/2" pc of metal that is flat and goes between the frame supports on the bottom side. It is a little lip formed by 2 pces of metal on top of each other, and only about 1/4" thick. That lip needs to be removed. That is all i removed and there is no rubbing at all. I have a Greddy FMIC just for reference and that pc is shown in the I/C manual as to be removed.
