Yeah i know everyone hates answering stupid questions like this...but since the forum has been dragging lately i figure i'd throw something out here..... I've got the smic for my rb25... i'd really like to go ahead and get a FMIC (hybrid) and install it while i'm working small misc. to finish up the install..... I'm still running with stock suspension on the other hand and i believe it would be a wise investment to purchase some tein flex coilovers or maybe the SS........ anyways just would like to read what you guys have to say...

I agree about the dragging

I have both currently, so here is my input.

Tein Flex- corner like a mofo, but you do not want that suspension for the street, it is quite rough. Depending on your goals, I would go for some springs and adjustable struts.

Hybrid IC- got mine from http://www.240supply.comIt is huge, and the only downside I see to this is that you are now blocking some airflow to your radiator. I am planning on building some air deflecters for the top and bottom, to make sure all the air is flowing through the IC and radiator.

Should still be pics under my user name in the Member's Rides Gallery.

I say go with the coilovers, balance the power to handling ratio.

Ride quality really isn't that big of an issue to me.... i'd rather have hella performance!! I thought they were 16 point adjustable? But i'm out here in kunt-tucky so the road quality (if you've ever been through paducah on your way to the nico convo in louisville) isn't really up to par. ....given another alternative...maybe the tein SS series would suite my needs best?

Oh yeah ...and another thing... I swapped the front brakes from my clip onto my s14... (i'm hijacking my own thread hahaha) but with the big r33 disks the lugs don't seem to have enough room to fit a wheel and lugnuts...maybe it's just me

Depends what you want to do with your car, do you want to drag race or are you looking at track work?

I have done both and found more advantage from the suspension than from the FMIC.

The FMIC let me run boost a little higher and safer but really only added .2 seconds to the 1/4 mile and maybe about 10rwkw max.

The suspension added about .5 sec to the 1/4 obviously from much less tramp.

On track days the suspension allows me to get better times than more powerful versions of my own car, who only have stock suspension.

So imho go for the coilovers

I just wanted to know why everyone goes for the tein coilovers. Are they superior to all the other brands or what or is it that they are a bit cheaper than the others?

they are a very hard suspension made for well kept Japanese roads and available for a reasonable price (at least here in Australia)

Saying that I don't think they are suitable for all conditions, here for example the roads can be quite bumpy and there are Australian suppliers who can provide a better suspension setup for our conditions, but they of course cost more money.

I could get a set of 2nd hand Tien coilovers from Japan for about $700 Australian dollars

But I decided to go with a Whiteline suspension package instead and am ahppier with their performance compared to the Tiens I had on my car.
