I have an s13 redtop in a s14 body I just installed the Greddy, FMIC and already had the koyo rad., and single 14" electric fan

Took my car down the road and notice my water temp gauge has gone off the charts (this is at stock boost)I checked the coolent level and all hoses for leaks and everything is fine

Could it be that now I have the FMIC that I need to switch to 12" fans or could it be some other problem?

its a big fat cooling problem. i would say dual electric fans minimum

also, there are no obstructions between the ic and the radiator, right?

its cold out now. once it warms up, your cooling problems will only get worse.

Do you still have the stock S14 rad fan? That's what I ran as a single and it was fine. I also thought my car was overheating, so I added an extra 12in electric as a pusher, but the problem ended up being a bad coolent temp sensor. Have you verified that your car is really overheating, like is it boiling over, or have you stuck a temp probe into the radiator? Try swaping the temp sensor sender out of a '95 240 into your SR and see if it helps any.

The symptoms when my sensor went bad were:car heats up REALLY fast and goes straight to redline, temp goes up and down a lot (jumps back and forth) with no real connection to vehicle speed or load, it was overheating even at highway speeds (if you just need more airflow this wouldn't happen because 65mph pushes WAY more air through the radiator than a set of dual 12in fans).

somthing to think about anyhow.

i thought i heard that s13's into s14 chasis have different signal for the water temp sensor or something like that, so it causes the temp gauge to go way up?

Yeah i read something about this...the s13 sr temp sensor plugs in but it will give the wrong signal, i believe you need a s14 sr temp sensor...not sure if the sr and ka temp sensors are the same, someone here should be able to tell ya...if this is it your car isn't over heating at all and you may not need the new fans however it never hurts...

Yea the S13 SR works great with the S14KA sensor but the S14 sensor also works great in a redtop SR. BUT if you put the S14KA sensor into a blacktop 180 motor it also works.

So yea..... can't use any SR sensor in a S14 chassis unless you have an S14 SR.

That is correct. The car has to use an S14 KA sensor.
