I had my flywheel resurfaced as part of my engine rebuild. In putting everything back together and checking all specs the flywheel has too much runout axially. FSM says >.006", I'm seeing .010" - .011".

I don't want to take it back to the same dumb***, but everyone else is a long ways away. My guess is he used the back side of the flywheel as a reference surface, instead of the crank mating face.

What will happen if I run like this?

whoa Greg, i wish i knew exactly what would happen.

However, since you already checked it yourself i can tell you're concerned, as you should be.

did you get the correct step machined into the flywheel? if so i would measure the runout on that surface and decide from there.

otherwise a part that is out of spec will worry you every day and every shift of your life. Its possible nothing will happen, but i know you'd rather have the piece of mind.

you should make sure it has the correct step machined on it (is it .008? i forget, but any reputable machine shop should have checked their books), test that run out, and then take it back and tell them your problem.

something that is two-fold out of spec like that would worry me about a slipping clutch a few thousand miles down the road.

and if you really cant find someone near you, its possible you might wanna think about buying a lightweight fly... although i know i never had the cash for that, and maybe you dont either
