I'm about to install the Spec stage 3 on my 240sx. My question is do I have to resurface the flywheel? I have heard as long as it is not cracking or anything then just clean it with brake parts cleaner, is this true? Every clutch I have installed before has gone with a lightweight flywheel, so this was never an issue.

The single part I hate most about clutch installs is removing the flywheel, so if I will have to remove it for resurfacing I'll just pay the $130 to have a shop install it.

Anyone know? Help ASAP would be appreciated.

if its not glazed ,have hot spots, or cracked then no you dont have to spin it. just hit it with a lite sand paper spray it off and run with it. if any of the mentioned conditions exist i would recommend turning it.

I always have the flywheel resurfaced. It's only about $25 at my machine shop and worth it every time. A maligned, glazed, or cracked flywheel can have some bad repercussions, especially on that new clutch of yours.

Plan on buying new flywheel to crank bolts. I didn't and busted a bolt when I was torquing them back in. Got to 20 lb. ft. and one of them twisted in half. They are 6 dollars a bolt and you'll need 6. I had to order mine from a dealer. If you don't buy them plan on buying drill bits and screw extractors and maybe some medication for the huge headaches that go along with breaking parts.

It's usually only GM cars that have the torque to yield bolts, most Japanese and German cars ALWAYS specify a torque value. I usually run it in with a gun then check it with a torque wrench.

Yeah i used an impact only to put them on. I didn't take the extra time to torque them down and 2 days after installing my flywheel, bolts loosened up. I guess that will teach me to never check torque specs. Nick

Yeah when I first looked at the flywheel, it was very smooth and slick. Well it was also cracking slightly (surface cracks) and there were obvious hotspots. I thought it was supposed to be slick though. I had it machined, 15 minutes and $45 later I had a rough surface flywheel that looked 100x better. My machinist told me that the surface was also bowed so it would have caused me problems down the line.

Thanks for the advice guys.
